Just realized that I hadn’t updated my review from a few years ago… we are back to being absolute regulars, and we take all our friends here if we’re going for brunch on a weekend, they all love it. It must be tough taking over an existing restaurant, and then the pandemic turns things upside down. I have to say, the current owners stuck it out and we are back to seeing other regulars here most times we go. Check it out! As promised, we went back to give the new owners a fair chance (see original review), and we were pleased to see an improvement in the quality and range in the buffet offering. All the food was hot, the range was good. The service is still a little impersonal, but that will hopefully improve with time. As a result, I change my rating from 2 to 3 stars, and will give them another try. (I genuinely want to see this place get back to what it was, it was always nice to see familiar faces and see a restaurant that was so so consistent and reliable that it was a regular haunt for so many.)
Original review: Sorry, we loved this place, but it recently changed owners, and I'm sad to say, it's not the same. This was a regular Sunday morning brunch spot for us (typically twice a month), and almost everyone in the place were regulars that we were constantly bumping into there, which tells you how good it was. Unfortunately, it's not the same... the food was barely warm, there were three or four regular items that were missing from the selection, the plates and cups looked grimy, and the staff were just not friendly at all. They had bumped the price up by $1 which wasn't a big deal, as it was amazing value, but the decline in quality and range makes it bitter. In fairness, we'll go back one more time to give them an opportunity to figure out that the regulars are what made the place hum, and that the consistency of the offering was the key, but if it's still the same next time we go, we'll be looking for a new Sunday hangout. (...I'll come back and update my review...
Read moreWe came for a tasting to choose a restaurant to cater a wedding. Holy cow, was this good!!!! He highlight was the Channa Bhatura - smoky, aromatic, cooked to perfection. That being said, the paneer tikka masala, saag paneer, idli, pakora, sambaar were all fantastic, and the ghobi Manchurian was very good as well. We did order bindhi which was a bit middling, however everything was very well cooked. Naan was soft and buttery with a nice crisp crust and plenty of air with a slight chew. The flavors all around were complex, layered with a perfect balance of salt. I will say the spice level was wonderful for a “general” audience, but when we asked to tweak it up for our palate, they served us a beautiful daal makhni with a good kick. Finally, the chutneys were home-made, great blend of sweet and spicy. Went great with the Samosas!
The wait staff was so sweet and efficient, the owner and chef came out to speak with us throughout the meal, and the atmosphere was nice and quiet, perfect for conversation. The only negative here, is there was a television in my eyeliner, just stuck on pause. Fair warning - this restaurant is next to a banquet hall (also owned by the restaurant?) and the music and sounds carried over - but it sounded fun!
All in all, a wonderful experience. We’ll definitely back, and everyone in our party unanimously voted to request Royal Delhi Palace to cater...
Read moreI am of South Indian decent and loooove our food. Especially northern region (Punjab). Chef Anthony Bourdain once said that if he was ever going to be a vegetarian, “it would be here” (Punjab).
I have not eaten at royal delhi palace in like 10 years and it’s a local restaurant. I just learned that a new owner took over so I went to try it. I must say this team is working hard!Restaurant and bathroom was clean but more importantly the food was delicious!!!!
The starters I tired were: traditional veg samosa, Gobi Manchurian, Hara Bara kebab, aloo tikki, malai chicken served with mint chutney and tamarind sauce. With no room left for main course... I still tried the chicken tikka masala with garlic naan. I prefer the latter over butter chicken bc it’s exactly the same except the sauce comes with white meat; Butter chicken comes with red meat. And wait! So I made room for dessert too- Ras Malai.
I would suggest going to their Sunday brunch buffet so that you can try a variety of dishes. The owners are professional and...
