As 99% of pad Thai these days it’s too sweet! Apart from that it’s above average. At $25 (shrimp) it better be! I’m sorry but it’s a plate of RICE (noodles) with (bigger) shrimp, and a sauce worth pennies. How have we arrived at $25 pad Thai!?🤦‍♀️ The added broccoli was essentially raw vs flash fried or steamed so that was weird. Sauce is red tinted and thicker, clearly appeasing Americans. Can’t blame them, but they know in Thailand it’s sublime. Theres a reason we swoon when going to Thailand at how good their food is. We have the technology to make it here! I guess it’s as good as burgers in Thailand🤷‍♀️

I went to Thai on Hillhurst for dinner with my sister and we had a really great time! The space is super cute and has a good vibe. I had the Thai iced tea and my sister got the chrysanthemum infused tea which we both loved. For apps we got the crispy veggie roll + veggie dumplings and for mains we got the pad Thai + salmon. All the food was amazing and the portions were large. We’ll definitely be back again soon!

The food is good but they need to change out their oil more frequently. The French fries and popcorn chicken were definitely either refried or cooked in oil that was old. (Photo included). You can see how dark they were. The Pad Thai had amazing flavor that I struggle to find at other Thai restaurants but again, it had this sort of burnt taste that I am not fond of. Otherwise I would have given them 5 stars.

My husband and I were shocked and disappointed. My husband ordered panang and it was very salty. He has high blood pressure and cannot eat a lot of salt. At first the kind Waitress said he could exchange his dish. She took the dish away. My husband said what he wanted to exchange it for and everything seemed fine. Then she came back and she said that she couldn’t exchange it. The owner/chef said “no”. The chef would not make another dish for him. This was terribly embarrassing. We dine out a lot and if a dish doesn’t work we are able to exchange it. The chef let her ego get the best of her. She said she wouldn’t make another dish because my husband had tasted it with a very small bit of rice. In spite of this the waitress was nice. She was upset with the owner as well. She kept apologizing. It’s a shame. The atmosphere is nice but we won’t go back again and be insulted. Note: The restuarant is no longer called Simply Thai. Its now called Thai on Hillhurst. I don’t know if they changed...

I've been here 2-3 times because I was with people who wanted to eat there... but I'm never satisfied with the food. I guess that's why I've only been there so few times over the past 5 years!

On this last occasion, I got the lunch special pad thai ($8). The texture of the noodles is very chewy... more chewy than I like... and it was extremely salty. I ordered a side of white rice to try to make it edible, but I still couldn't eat it and lost my appetite. I didn't even bother to take it to go... And I never waste food! so for me that says a lot. The side of rice cost $2.50. I thought that was kind of pricey for white rice, so I was a little more annoyed at my disappointing meal that I was throwing away.

But I will point out some pros! My coworker liked her curry a lot. I tried a little bit and it was tasty. The atmosphere is nice and calm, and the staff...

The food & service was good BUT the happy hour menu on their website is incorrect. When we ordered - we were not told that the menu had changed. We were only told that they no longer do the wings on HH. We expected our bill to be 49$ plus tax, but we were charged 73$. Now, I get things change and the food was good, but when we brought it up to them that their online site was no longer updated the owner did not care - they said “the menu is subject to change at anytime” cool, but just let us know. If the owner would have honored the original price, we would have become regulars. Instead, they’ve lost out on our future business. Nothing feels worse than being ripped off. BTW - happy hour is 2$ off...
