Had the Soy Chicken and Tropical Pancakes, which were a hit with all 5 of us who came. Crispy chicken stripes with sweet spicy sauce and two large, fluffy pancakes with big chunks of banana and blueberries with vegan butter and maple syrup--yum ($8.95 for tropical pancake edition)! Thank you, fellow Yelpers! We also enjoyed the super flavorful Green Curry with nice purple rice ($8.95), Rock and Roll noodles with Pepper Soy Steak ($7.95), Spicy Eggplant stir-fry ($7.95), and Pad Thai ($7.95). Oh, and Spring Rolls for starters ($5.55). The man who took our order was really nice and so attentive, refilling our water on a hot day before our cups were even half-full. When my pregnant sister-in-law asked for some ice to add to her water because it had melted, he gave her a giant cup full of ice that would probably last her the day. They also kindly put all the cooked tofu and bean sprouts on the side of all dishes or in separate dishes because we told the waiter that my aunt is slightly allergic to soy, but she also didn't want to deprive us of those ingredients. Everything was spectacular, except the spring rolls, which were just ok since they used lots of iceberg lettuce and the flavor was lacking, but the rest of the dishes redeemed the meal many times over; service was quite excellent, and the decor was funky and unique. Oh, and bathrooms were very clean with a hint of apple cinnamon scent from the air freshener. Prices for 100+ menu items weren't over $9, big portions, and very reasonable. Definitely...
Read moreColor me impressed.
I parked my car and realized my friend had not given me the correct time for the movie. In fact, he hadn't given me a time at all. I had said "See you at 7pm." He had said, "Ok."
Rule #1: Always make plans with definite times and places, agreed and understood by all parties.
I walked and used my handy MoviePass to snag my ticket early. I then realized, I was early to a fault.
I meandered down the street popping into hip bookstores, clothing bundles, and trinket shops.
That's when the sneaking suspicion that I might be hungry began to take hold of my consciousness. It was time to eat.
I mashed the red Yelp icon with force until the app complied. "Search: Vegetarian."
Oh I know, greens. Greens and good substitutes for meat. That's what I was in for. This is a path I've chosen, and I have to walk it.
The kind servers suggested I tried a wrap with their veggie-chicken-taste-alike, and I accepted their suggestion. I was amazed and suspicious of their speedy prep time, but my hunger quieted any further questions I may have had.
One bite...and wow. I was not extra early to a movie, I was late to trying Green Leaves Vegan.
The veggies were fresh, the fake chicken tasty, and the sauce was an unexpected ally, defeating hunger and curbing my want for flavor.
If you're in the Los Feliz area and looking for something vegan (or not, as they have options), take a stroll down to Green Leaves Vegan. Get the wrap. Use the sauce....
Read moreThis is a surprising one. I don’t typically eat vegan but I was feeling the need to eat particularly healthy so I thought I’d try this spot out. I have to say it exceeded my expectations.
The server told me that their vegan fried chicken and pancakes were popular so I went ahead and ordered that. The chicken had some really good breading and texture to it, you could barely tell that it was vegan chicken. The pancakes were fantastic. Cooked perfectly. The dish came with some warm maple syrup and a sweet chili dipping sauce for the chicken. A surprisingly good combination with each bite.
I also ordered the vegan chicken satay cause I’m a big fan of the usual version of it. I gotta say these were actually good. I think their sauces and seasoning really make their vegan items really stand out.
I did order a Thai iced tea because I was told that was popular. Was not a fan. Had a weird flavor that I can’t even describe. Almost like a smoky milk flavor. Just not my style. The server was cool enough to notice that I didn’t like it and immediately gave me a free Coke to take home.
The place had a very chill, relaxed vibe and I was served right away. If you ever need to host a vegan friend for a breakfast I would definitely recommend this spot. I’m pretty interested to try other vegan menu options after my...
