This is a local restaurant in Playa Del Rey near the beach. My friends and family used to go there often after an unexpected visit to the beach. They would have daily specials and what seemed was pretty decent food & drinks. It was cool and comfortable back then. Yesterday, after throwing my new frisbee around, i dropped by for nostalgia and cant figure out for the life of me, why or how it's still in business. [Take out perhaps] The parking situation is awful...6 spaces, 1 is handicap. We circled the neighborhood a few times for alternatives. We finally saw 2 free spaces in their lot. When we were ready to leave, we found our car blocked in by a Cadillac. And of course, no one was available to assist and we never found the driver. So what should have taken 1 minute max literally took 15 😠. Moving on to the dining experience... We walk in and no one is at the front to greet us so we wait, per the signage that reads "Order Here". Other patrons start coming in and we are all piled up in this small area waiting for a host. Eventually she comes & takes our order. Just so happens we ordered the daily special but had no clue because we weren't informed. I ordered the Blue Cheese Bacon Burger because i was impressed that it comes with actual blue cheese crumbles and no onions. When my order arrived to the table the shredded iceberg lettuce was turning brown & the onions were falling out the bun...yuck! After editing those items i took my first bite and No-Blue- Cheese-Crumbles!!! There was plenty of blue cheese dressing but i was looking forward to the texture & taste of fresh crumbles. "Oh well" i told myself. What could i expect from a place like this? After the third bite in i had to go and refer to the menu for verification. And sure enough it said crumbles & no mention of onions or wilted lettuce 😆. So i asked the server, "Hi! I ordered the blah blah blah and was wondering about the Blue Cheese?" She replies that it just comes with the dressing and offers me a side of the crumbles. I played it off, accepted the crumbles and went back to my seat. I drove home thinking i will never go there again. But i actually want to go again. I just want the experience to improve. I googled it and there are good reviews online. I just wish they would...

Not sure why anyone would go to the Shack and order a Veggie Burger, but...

The Shack Burger!

I have been eating burgers for almost 55 years, in different states and countries and, as simple as it is, it is hands down the best Burger I have ever eaten. 200 Shack Burgers later and still loving it. I remember moving to just down the street and my g/f tells me we have to go to The Shack. I get there and thought, "Hell no...no sausage on my burger!" She says shut up and try it...been hooked ever since. And for the life of me, I can't seem to duplicate it at home since I now live FAR away and don't drive. My youngest daughter just shakes her head and says, Nope Dad...not right. LOL Finally getting a ride to Culver City to visit my parents in Holy Cross Cemetery and I will definitely be going there for lunch after my daughter takes her UCLA tour. See you there, September 20th at 1:00. Enjoy! PS- Impossible parking situation or I'd give it 10 Stars....

Bar has specific section set aside for orders so it's generally pretty easy to get the bartender's attention for a drink. Pours also seem pretty generous, though I drank beer, my friend did jack and coke and got pretty hecked up on two.

Karaoke was awesome-plenty of chances to sing without feeling like I was singing to no one, or the only person willing to sing at all. Crowd gets really into it, too, which is great. Bonus, if a line does develop and you're super invested, there are various tip charges that will move you up in the line, but wait without paying was still what I would consider reasonable for the time of night and number of singers. Google is allowing me to pick "karaoke" as a dish I recommend, which is pretty on point.

I did eat there a few years ago and remember it being decent but I feel like if you're going to a bar for the food and are disappointed that it's not michelin quality then...

DO NOT BELIEVE THE SHACKS GOOGLE REVIEW SCORE. It is outrageously inflated Do NOT book your event at The Shack. I was ready to spend thousands on food and drinks for a special baby shower, and they treated me like I was a burden. April was rude, unresponsive, and ignored multiple requests—including my simple ask for a manager’s contact info. Weeks after confirming my event, they suddenly demanded a $1,000 reservation fee that went toward nothing, then tried to move my event time last-minute because “summer is busy.” Thankfully, I found a much better venue with amazing staff and food—unlike The Shack, which clearly doesn’t value its customers. There are plenty of laid-back beach spots that would actually be grateful for your business. Avoid this place.

Treasure gem of a spot to get a good burger. The Playa Burger is a favorite that comes with bacon and avocado. Burgers come with fries for about $12. Salads are delicious, I like the BBQ chicken and their Cobb Salad. 2024 Edit ** Recently I’ve been coming for their fries, they make hot fresh fries that are thin, salty and perfectly crispy. Truly the best fries in town. You can smoke while you drink so long as you smoke on the patio. Eating is allowed there too so if you’re a smoker, this place is very comfortable to be at. Employees have been there for a long time and are super nice, adding to the perfectly beachy local feel. Relaxed and casual vibes. Full bar. Credit cards accepted. Park along the streets.

I've been looking for a good burger for a long time and a coworker suggested The Shack. I wasn't disappointed. I ordered the Shack Burger a combination of Louisiana Sausage and Hamburger with cheese near the front door cash register then grabbing a Chardonnay at the full bar. It wasn't long before this stack of juicy meat on a Bun was in front of me. This tasty burger does take two hands! Delicious! You can taste the combination of two types of meat and it is heaven and more fries than I could finish. The people that work there are very friendly, family-like. This place also has a kids menu!
