Its the jome of the 007 Interceptor. The DPW is managing this automatic trash collector. See pictures for malfunctioning on 2/5/24. DPW was notified. They say they were overwhelmed. The trash keeps streaming into the ocean. Bummer. See pictures. Join us for trash collection on the beach after the storm is over? So relaxing on one of the last days in August 2022. The jetty walkway got a nice overhaul in summer 2022. It’s now partially paved. Such an improvement. Thank you. This jetty is next to the bike path and the bridge that connects Playa del Rey and Marina del Rey. Usually, the beaches here are clean due to the 007 trash barrier. However, it was not functional in August 2023; during the tropical storm Hilary. See pictures for all the trash littering the beaches here. The author is going on a stroll to clean up some of the trash. Please feel free to join her.

Revisited the beach here with the unfortunate fallout and views of the smoke from the Palisades fire! While the vantage point is good to look out from when at the beach here, it’s also vulnerable to the surf, winds and now ash falling from the sky from the fire. It’s close enough to the bike path to stop off and carry on. The south side jetty of Ballona Creek, this one is also at the northern terminus of the beach that extends thru South Bay!

At the time of Spanish settlement, Ballona Creek was a distributary of the Los Angeles River. However, during a major flood in 1825, the Los Angeles River's course changed to its present channel, and Ballona Creek became a completely distinct waterway.

Once a “year-round river lined with sycamores and willows,” Ballona Creek remains a prime bird-watching spot for waterfowl, shorebirds, warblers, and birds of prey. Bottlenose dolphins, harbor seals and California sea lions are occasionally...
