The power of social media is incredible for spreading the word and attracting visitors from all around to this charming coffee shop nestled within an indoor swap meet. One evening, while scrolling through my feed, I stumbled upon a video highlighting Ülëw, a delightful Latino-owned coffee shop, and I knew I had to check it out. The very next morning, I grabbed my keys and headed out to support this small business.
Location: Ülëw is situated inside the indoor swap meet, right behind what used to be a Bank of America, now an empty lot.
Service: The owner of Ülëw is exceptionally friendly and often works the front counter. He takes the time to describe his drinks in detail and offers great recommendations. My personal favorite is the Latte De Barrio, a perfect blend of brewed coffee, milk, spices, and just the right amount of sweetness.
Atmosphere: Upon entering, you're greeted by the warm scent of incense wafting from the neighboring stalls. As you make your way to the middle of the building, you'll find the door to Ülëw, a cozy little coffee shop with just enough space to place your order. While you wait in the hallway, you can grab a book or a game, or head into the community dining hall directly...

From the moment we walked in, we felt so welcomed. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the cleanliness really stood out. They had everything we needed, from utensils to condiments, all well-organized.
We ordered the Barrio coffee, a home-brewed Guatemalan blend, and it was delicious - smooth, rich, and flavorful. It was clear they put a lot of care into sourcing and crafting their coffee. The avocado toast was also fantastic - super delicious with a beautiful presentation that added to the experience.
One of my favorite things about Ulew was the music. It took me back to my childhood, creating an atmosphere that felt comforting and nostalgic. They also have a private seating section with free books to read and WiFi, making it a perfect spot to relax or get some work done.
This place is truly a gem, and I can't wait...
Read moreA special coffee shop in the heart of Boyle Heights. They take their drinks seriously; made with great care, excellent ingredients, skill, and professionalism. Service is tip-top, especially if you’re into coffee and like knowing what you are drinking. I hope they stay on the course of excellence and do not compromise quality or spirit at any point. Proud to see it manned and ethically run by indigenous people. An example to follow for like-minded coffee shops and a golden standard. Hope to see them garner the positive attention and recognition they deserve.
I drink a lot of cappuccinos and theirs is in the top 5, if not top 3 in Los Angeles from the many places I have tried so far.
Something to note: If you’re in a rush, there can be a longer than average wait so come prepared to...
