We had a wonderful dinner experience at Umberto's Trattoria and Cantina! Our group of six was warmly welcomed by Tony, our friendly and attentive server. We were seated in one of the cozy dining rooms, which was both comfortable and perfect for conversation.
The menu is a unique and appealing blend of Italian and Mexican specialties—ideal for a group with varied tastes. We enjoyed a variety of dishes, including the flavorful Carne Asada, a satisfying Quesadilla, a generous Antipasto Plate, and two orders of classic Pasta Pomodoro. I especially loved the Umberto’s Pasta with penne, broccoli, and sun-dried tomatoes—I requested Alfredo sauce on the side and used it sparingly, and it turned out to be a fabulous choice!
The margarita was excellent, and we were impressed by the wide selection of beer and wine available.
For dessert, we shared the Tartufo al Pistachio, Mixed Berry Cheesecake, and Chocolate Mousse—all of which were delicious and beautifully presented.
They also offer a daily Happy Hour from 3–7 pm (except Sundays when they are closed), featuring great specials on a wide selection of appetizers and drinks. The bar area is relaxed and inviting—perfect for winding down or meeting friends.
Located right on Sepulveda freeway close across from he Getty Museum, Umberto’s is a fantastic midway stop for commuters traveling to and from the San Fernando Valley. A great place to relax and unwind and let the traffic calm down! There’s convenient parking in the garage, and the restaurant offers several dining rooms that can accommodate up to 100 guests—making it an excellent venue for group events.

Read moreOrdered the vegetable lasagna and the mushroom truffle pizza to go. They did not give me the mushroom truffle pizza but instead I got some sort of prosciutto, arugula, and cheese pizza. I didn’t make a fuss because I thought you know maybe they’re out of the pizza that I wanted.
The only flavoring to it is the prosciutto and the arugula. This thing is basically bland. I had to add balsamic vinaigrette to it to at least give it some kind of flavor.
Same with the vegetable lasagna. It needs salt, it needs pepper, and I could probably get some tastier from the frozen food section of a grocery store.
When I ordered my food, the person who took my order sounded like they couldn’t really be bothered to take my order.
It’s Monday night and the place was empty. Put two into together. I don’t believe all of the five star reviews.
I’m only eating this because I’m just really hungry, and there’s nothing else...
Read moreWe often visit our son at UCLA and have been wanting to visit. First of all, the food is wonderful. The red sauce is definitely from scratch. I had the Eggplant and pasta, very tasty. My husband and son had the Gnocci, also yummy. Paul was very nice and welcoming. We really liked him ! There is a parking garage right behind the restaurant. We didn't know and felt like we were putting our lives at risk. No crosswalk and just crazy, so this will definitely bring us back. The atmosphere is great too. The full bar and huge variety of wines is also a plus. My only request is that they update the menu. My eggplant was $19 on the menu and I was charged $25. With the $9 beer, lunch for 3 was $84 without tip yet. Some lunch specials might bring more customers in. Just a suggestion for a great place that we want to revisit again and...
