Disappointed After 20+ Years of being a customer: Time for Modernization at Western Bagel before its too late
As a loyal customer of over 20 years, I’m deeply disappointed with the current state of this Western Bagel location. The once reliable establishment has failed to keep up with the times, leaving customers like myself feeling frustrated and undervalued. Despite the convenience offered by modern payment methods, they still insist on a cash-only policy. In this day and age, it's unacceptable to expect customers to carry cash for a simple bagel purchase.
To make matters worse, the in-store ATM charges a hefty $3.50 fee for cash withdrawals. It feels like an unnecessary and exploitative expense, especially since there are more cost-effective options available. This additional cost only adds to the frustration and inconvenience for patrons who are left with no choice but to use the ATM to pay for their orders.
The quality of the bagels at Western Bagel has also declined significantly. They have become noticeably smaller, yet the prices remain unchanged. This reduction in value is disappointing for long-term customers who remember the larger, more satisfying bagels of the past. The experience now feels more like a cash grab than the quality service we once appreciated.
Finally, the lack of toppings available has become a frequent issue. Each visit seems to be met with an excuse about why certain toppings are unavailable, leaving me to settle for less than what I wanted. For a store that once prided itself on variety and quality, this is a disheartening decline. I urge Western Bagel to modernize their payment options and address the declining quality to regain the trust and satisfaction of their...
Read moreEvery bagel and pastry the WESTERN BAGEL chain offers for sale is available in their 24 hour factory store. It never closes. This is not a discount operation. Prices are the same as in their retail shops.*
But, oh boy, are their bagels and pastries fresh.
The bagel shop is part of their industrial-sized bakery.
Servers are quick, friendly, knowledgeable, and efficent.
Lots of pastry choices, especially sweet bagels. Cream cheese is offered in several sizes and so are packages of Nova Lox (thinly sliced smoked salmon).
Counter service only, there is no seating or table service. Sandwiches are prepared to order for takeout. If you're getting a quantity of bagels, ask for the plastic storage bags and/or tableware. They're both free. And, of course, 13 bagels are considered a dozen.
THE BAKERY ACCEPTS CASH AND CHECKS ONLY. NO CREDIT CARDS ARE ACCEPTED. An ATM is available inside the store.
The multi-story flour silos, standing at attention in front of the bakery's factory building, are striking.
Be careful exiting their free parking lot. Traffic is very busy on Sepulveda Boulevard. There are several ADA spaces near the store's entrance.

Read moreWestern Bagels are some of the best bagels. If you get the ones in the supermarkets, they're ok. But the ones they make at their bakery in Van Nuys are just AMAZINGLY GREAT!!!!!!! They're open 24/7. The bagels and other items are fresh and continually rotated. Day and night. Depending on the time of day, or night, the police take their breaks at this particular establishment, so it's very safe no matter when you go. Who says police like doughnuts?! They make just about any kind of bagels here. Plain, blueberry, cheese, onion, garlic, chocolate, egg, you name it!!! Plus they sell cream cheese and lox (they also sell a cream cheese and lox mix that fairly good to). If you're buying 1 or 2 bagels, they'll toast them and put on any cream cheese and/or lox for you right there. Or make a sandwich with it to your liking. They Also sell related desert pastries there to. My personal favorites are: onion and plain bagels. Usually I'll get 6 to 12 and share with friends or coworkers. Personally, I really...
