Winchell's Donut House — Restaurant in Los Angeles

Ok, so I never thought I'd review a major Donut chain but it was my kid's half birthday (don't ask!) and she really wanted a donut...

This particular Winchell's on Reseda Blvd, just north of Ventura Blvd in the Tarzana neighborhood of the SFV, happens to be the closest donut shop to our house. Aside from that I've never been all that impressed with their donut selection. No matter the donut type, they always seem so DRY to me. Anyone else feel like that?

So, why the 3 stars? The customer service is like something out of a blooper reel from a DVD you were shown in training for your retail job back in the day. You know, those lame videos where kids with zero acting chops "acted out" being the customer and the server? Then they'd go back and forth, showing how obviously NOT to interact with customers...

Well, the overall service and the servers' own behavior is like that of one of the bad actors who don't give a $%*&, in those films that show what NOT to do in customer service... EVER!

One time this tall, sassy, Latina brunette went off on my bf when he asked for a sandwich on a croissant instead of a bagel. I swear she started screaming at him, in was surreal! Then, to add insult to unjury, he tried for 2-3 days to get ahold of the store manager but every time he called, the staff had all been gossiping about the incident and knew it was him...so they played musical pickups and took turns picking up the phone, asking him how they could help him, then leaving him on hold for 15 minutes each time. He took deep breaths and managed to keep his cool. He was really determined to get the manager on the phone. But eventually, they hung up on HIM !

The whole thing was childish and rude. Not to mention, they act like they don't understand a single word you're saying. So you try to point at the item you'd like to purchase, then they'll throw they're hands into the air, as if my pointing at what I wanted was somehow my way of putting her down?!

Bottom line, I MIGHT (probably not) return there if the product they're KNOWN FOR (donuts) could stand on its own two feet but when I order a glazed buttermilk donut... That thing better MELT in my mouth (the way it does EVERY time at Spudnuts on Roscoe, just east of Topanga (and the El Pollo Loco on that SW corner, in Canoga Park. If you're in Tarzana, I promise...it's worth the 7-10 minute drive! 😉 😘 💯% MY...

The food tastes fine .. the atmosphere is fine for what it is nothing fancy …The service was ok with the ladies that helped me and friend out with our order at first and then this guy that wouldn’t give a name of course butted in when we opened the sandwich in front of them to check for the extra bacon and avacado that was paid for extra!! By the way to add to the sandwiches was non existent basically besides one little scrap of bacon on my friends sandwich that she showed them and He wouldn’t look at and then on mine the avacado that we paid extra for looked more like a wiped off knife onto the sandwich from an avacado rather than actual avacado?? What’s the deal????? And the RUDE response was “well it’s in there somewhere!” Are you kidding me?? That’s what this place will tell you as a customer that paid extra for something that isn’t there.. I didn’t think I could be surprised now of days with the idiotic things people say and do but today I was surprised at this one! As I walk into winchells to enjoy a nice delicious donut and coffee for lunch I get hit by a large heat wave. I feel as if I'm in the middle of Death Valley. I then proceeded to get into line. There was no form of structure! Everyone was everywhere and all I wanted was my coffee and a donut. It was finally my turn to order the lady was super nice but the quality in food and drinks, TERRIBLE! I got an iced vanilla coffee and it was tasteless.. tasteless I tell you. I tried mixing it up a little to see if it'll be better but nothing seemed to worked. I started to thing maybe I had COVID and I just couldn't taste. How dare they make me think I have COVID. I then ordered the chocolate twist donut which wasn't that bad but since it was soooo hot in the shop my chocolate melted making my fingers look disgusting. So now I didn't even finish my donut or drink my coffee I ended up starving myself. I am disappointed with the service today. Hopefully next time...
