Casa De Soul — Hotel in Los Angeles

UPDATED to 1 star because they cancelled my (second) booking 2 days before my trip. I stayed in the New York room for a night, and here are my overall complaints:

Wi-Fi does not work for the night and I had to use my own data. Owner (who lives on the promise) stated Spectrum says there is a service disruption.

I woke up at 3:30 am that night and it was cold (November). House only starts to pre-heat according to the Nest thermostat at 6 AM to 70F. I was cold in my room sitting on the chair from 3:30 AM to 6 AM. (note: I woke up at 3:30 AM because I've been waking up super early in the past week to catch trains).

New York room is facing the main street. Bring your ear plugs. (Luckily I did because I didn't see one in the room).

While I was so cold sitting on the red chair pondering what to order for lunch on my way back, there was an ant crawling onto my legs. I do not have food on me. I don't understand why there is an ant.

Suzanne did a wonderful job during my 3 day stay in Topanga. Being a single woman with a small pet, late at night, I didn't know where to stay since the trip was last minute. I checked out other sites on Expedia but it didn't look safe, then all of a sudden, my intuition said Google it - and that's what I did and voila! Found Casa De Soul! It's a beautiful 2 detached homes, but as you walk inside, you have your own privacy. Kitchen was clean, served all kinds of coffee with different types of creamers. Bedroom was warm and clean, had TV with netflix, bed was extremely comfortable - I overslept lol , after driving 8 hours , I needed it. Best of all, Suzanne was an awesome host who picked up her phone and made sure we were OK. I am extremely pleased, and again, being a single woman- Casa De Soul was a message from God to go. Thank you Suzanne! I'll for sure send referrals your way!...

Suzanne is a great host. She’s very responsive, answered all my questions before the actual trip. She was there to greet me when I came. Love how she has decorated her home, a very warm, inviting interior. The room I selected had a great selection of books. And she had composed a book that included a list of the local restaurants and interesting sites, and places of special interest including the distance from CasaDeSoul and a brief autobiography about her. And yes, it is a "house of soul". I would have enjoyed talking with Suzanne about her various areas of interests and activities but I was in LA to speak, so time didn't allow. Maybe next trip.
