I wrote my college thesis on this place, due to it being the best restaurant within 15,000 miles (yes that covers the entire world) and the topic of my college thesis was: "How good can a restaurant get? The Texi Mexi Story"
This place might as well be placed on Fifth Avenue in New York City, with prices of $30 per taco, because that's what most people would be willing to pay for this place after they have tried their tacos. Thank Heavens it isn't in New York where all the pretentious foodies would be lining up around the block for what many believe to be the best tacos in Los Fresnos. The prices though... I mean you can't beat 6 dollars for a meal of several tacos, charro beans and chips and salsa, I mean (in the voice of Jimmy from South Park) come on!
I come to this place quite often, and by quite often I mean several times a week. I walk in the door, the manager behind the counter gives me a quick wink (not in any weird sexual way, more like a "i'm ready to rock your tastebuds kinda way") I sit down and he automatically knows I want the fajita combo with an horchata. I sit for 5.2 minutes (the perfect amount of time for someone to wait, enough time to think about how you're currently in heaven, but not enough to think it's taking long for your food). Juicy, greasy (in a damn good way) meat on delicious tortillas covered in white cheese, avocado and your choice of red or green salsa. Damn! You've arrived my friends... you've arrived.
Anyway to top off my review, I got a 110/100 on my college thesis, you know why? My professor thought it was a dumb topic, gave me a 68/100, and then drove all the way from Idaho to the valley to try these tacos, as soon as he took that first bite, he changed it to 110%. True story y'all.
2020 COVID19 edit:
These guys are still churning out delicious food to-go at an outrageous pace. Keep them chugging along and patronize them. They deserve it.
2021 Edit:
KEEP THEM GOING! Best food in Los Fresnos.
2022 Edit:
I had to go to the hospital because I went into a delicious coma after eating here on 1/7/2022
2023 Edit: Keeping prices reasonable despite inflation. Love them the same as when they first opened. Writing this update from Taiwan and got some serious horchata withdrawals.
2023 Thanksgiving Edit:
Supposedly Google removed my review for some reason, updating it to make sure it’s visible still
2024 Edit: I come in and the owner always recognizes me and serves me up pure love and pure taste straight to my tastebuds, amazing every single time.
2025 Edit: These guys are still churning out delicious food, they recognize me as "that one guy who wrote the long review" on Google everytime I go in. They treat me like family, and treat us with true kindness every time we go in. Please patronize this...
Read more12•22•24. 1st timer and was nit a fan for one the serving and presintation not worth it. Fajita was tough and was not grilled. i think it was just fried in a pan. For the price, it is definitely not worth it. Also why use old lettus i mean so much core where is the freshness on a actual Green Lettus in the taco instead you have left over yellow lettus seriously and you charge what you do come on now.. you know the taste of lettus that looks like that yall it is sad. And the pirata plate was so not worth it not even the serving the quesadillas they served yes it's a normal size corn tortillas yet they were just plain tortilla not even with oil as if they just put the cheese and uses a microwave to melt inside. So technically it was not even called a quesadilla very dry but the cheese is a bit grainy idk what kind of cheese it was but wasn't good flavor 2nd the portion on the plate for those quesadillas were not good very shysty. Not to mention the cut of the meat IYKYK that you cut against the grain not on it because when you're eating it, you're pulling and can't cut it with your teeth. I had asked about the Taco. If it is cut into mini pieces, they said yes, I wasn't having it. I said I wanted strips because you know when you cut into small pieces, it takes flavor away. Instead, it still didn't have the flavor it lacked seasons, salt, etc. It was too bland. Honestly, I don't recommend it, but you be the judge to it. I won't return. You can see the menu, and well, you decide way overpriced. And another thing I've mentioned on prior reviews i can not stand a restaurant that starts cleaning while customers are there eating and the 1st thing yountaste is the fabuloso it's just aweful wait till your customers leave then start mopping not during. Do it as an experiment. You get yourself a plate of food, have someone mop while you're eating, and tell me food tastes good. No, it doesn't. I'm trying to eat, and all I smell is the fabuloso. I know you keep the restaurant clean, but I can't emphasize enough....
Read moreWell spaced sit down sitting. Great service. Didn't blink an eye when we needed to sit 10. We sat split but, COVID. All the food was out quick and it was all great. Our party ordered tacos al pastor, tacos de bistro, parillada, and queso flameado.
There were complimentary chips with two kinds of salsa and complimentary al charro beans. Which...were...ridiculously tasty.
Finally, I had a pina agua fresca that was the perfect amount of sweet and full of tiny pineapple...
