This was my first experience at LG Cafe, but I hope it won't be my last. I was very impressed by the quaint atmosphere (very charming), the service, the plethora of food on the menu, and the quality AND quantity of food.
My grandma's currently in Los Gatos for a rehab stint, so I was there visiting her. My uncle drove me because I'd never been there before, and we decided to have a late breakfast here because he hadn’t been in a while. He knew that I hadn't eaten since around four the previous night (and it was nearing eleven), and he told me that this would be the place to fill me up. And he was right.
The establishment is rather down-home comfortable, cozy. Rustic. It isn't a very big place, but there is dining outside, and you're even permitted to bring your dog(s)! Our wait wasn't long (but there WAS a line when we left), so we were shown to a table inside right away. The place, however, was packed. I think the only seats free (besides ours) were at the counter and the table next to ours (which was taken about ten minutes after we sat down).
Our waiter was Joel, and he was very attentive. Our coffees were kept filled. Only once did I have to ask for a refill, and that was nearing the lunch-rush hour. Otherwise, Joel was excellent: friendly and efficient.
As to the menu...WOW! Seriously, I didn't know there were THAT many options for breakfast. Omelets, scrambles, soufflé omelets, pancakes, French toast--the variations were seemingly endless. Because it's fall, there were plenty of pumpkin-themed options, but what caught my attention was the graham-cracker banana pancakes (at least, I think this is the right name--it's been a couple weeks since I went, but I remember thinking how unique that was. I'd never heard of graham-cracker pancakes before)! But I had what my uncle had, and that was a cheese soufflé omelet (we chose cheddar). It came with a choice of roasted potatoes, hashbrowns (shredded potatoes), or something else (can't remember), plus toast, plus a bakery item. I chose the roasted potatoes and a blueberry muffin. My uncle had the hashbrowns and a cranberry-pumpkin coffee cake. And, oh, my gosh! The SIZE of the soufflé was HALF of the plate (and we're talking LARGE plates), and its surface was covered in melted cheddar. The other half of the plate was covered in potatoes. The muffin came before the meal, and the toast came on its own bread plate.
I could NOT eat it all. So I took it home and had the other half for brunch the next day. And I STILL couldn't finish it! We're talking A LOT of food.
And the taste? Excellent. I have NO complaints with ANY aspect of my first dining experience at LG Cafe. As I said, I want to go back.
Would I recommend this place. Unequivocally YES. But fair warning: Bring your appetite (and even then I bet you don't finish all...
Read moreLos Gatos Cafe Uptown has been on my radar for a few years now. We were greeted right away and offered a bar seat or outside table “inside was packed” (me) Outside table please (greeter) here are to menus I’ll be right out. True to his word he was out at our table with 2 glasses of water with lemons inside. Our waitress then came buy about 5 minutes Later and asked if we are ready to order? Within 15 our food was at our table, I must say it looked pretty darn good to. I ordered the seafood Benedict, extra hollandaise sauce and the home potatoes “cross between hash browns and wedge potatoes” wifey ordered chicken apple sausage Benedict with grits.
The rundown:
The good; The home potatoes were very good, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, the flavor profile was also very good 4 stars.
The grits: creamy and had good flavor 4 stars.
Food quantity: LOTS OF FOOD 5 stars.
Our server did a good job 4 stars.
The mediocre: The hollandaise sauce. While it wasn’t bad, it wasn’t good either, falls right dead smack in the middle at 2.5 stars.
The Bad: Wifey’s and my Benedict’s was lukewarm. 2 stars My Shrimp in my Benedict’s has a fishy flavor 1 star.
Both our English Muffins tasted good but were completely soggy 2 stars.
My Orange slice looked like it was cut a day ago and had been left out. (No way am I eating that) “0 stars” My opinion: While the service is good and the food looks really good (except for my orange slice) the quality is left lacking. There is no excuse for soggy English Muffins, shrimp that has that old “sea food taste” a orange slice “who knows how long ago it was cut” and not one but 2 Luke...
Read moreThis is a great little diner like Cafe with very reasonable prices! I was there at lunchtime with 3 companions; each ordering different items and everyone loving their choice. One person ordered the Steak Benedict, another ordered the Rueben; both ladies finished their meals with smiles on their faces. My 3rd guest ordered the signature cinnamon roll, yes it was $5, but it was big enough to share between all four of us and still have over half of it to nibble and take home. I had one of the Lunch Combo's; 1/2 a sandwich, a cup of soup, and a side salad. Salad was heavy on the greens, which I liked, it also had a carrot and tomato. The days soup was vegetable minestrone with small elbow macaroni. I ordered the chicken salad sandwich, there were other choices available, such as a turkey, a tuna, a B.L.T.A.T. (bacon, lettuce, tomato, avocado, and turkey), and a few others. The kicker for me was that the chicken salad, a hefty scoop, had bacon and apples too! The plate also came with an orange slice and a cookie! Talk about bang for your buck, it was only $10.95!!! Service was just right. Parking available in a busy lot. If your in downtown Los Gatos for whatever reason, I recommend heading uptown for breakfast before or lunch...
