Listen! You have to go to this place!! I was more than impressed with the employees' friendliness and attentiveness! It was happy hour but they have all day drink specials eaxh day! The bartenders continuously asked me if I needed anything, cleared my plate as soon as I was done, and made me feel comfortable. It's a very relaxing and chill environment. The music they played was lots of hits and not too loud. I sat inside at the bar but the first time I came I sat at the bar outside. The mimosa special on Sunday is pretty cool because they give you the bottle and the juice to make your own. It was also cheaper than most other places in BR. 1 bottle worked out well for the two of us. They have a really nice patio area that's closed off and stays pretty shady. I hadn't even gotten to the food yet!! The sandwich was very neat, plated nicely, and the toasted bread gave it a little something extra. The cheesy garlic bread was phenomenal!! The marinara and the ranch sauces were so fresh and complimented the bread so well! I couldn't choose which one I liked best! I got a chance to talk to the owner and learn a little more about the concept which was also pretty neat! I CANNOT WAIT TO GO BACK!

I came back, this time with a friend. THEY LOVED IT. (Of course that would happen!) Seriously, I want you guys for life. I've been mentioning you to all my friends. You're a huge hit! 😉 THIS PLACE IS THE T!TS Ok, by my username you might think I'm biased, but I'm being humble. I absolutely loved the food. It was a little pricey for the 2 of us. But don't let that stop you! The sandwiches are huge, piled HIGH. Clearly they can cure your hunger munchies. We wish we had ordered a second sandwich to go, to cure our late night needs. Lip smacking, finger licking good. We got the Greifo, and Magic mushroom. We are vegetarian and they had ALL the options. Hands down, my favorite place. Where do I want to go? Cheba Hut. What do I want for my birthday? Cheba Hut. You get the point. For all non vegetarians, you have a mile long list of subs to pick from. It was nearly, never ending. Something for every one. 😚👌🏼 chef's kiss My only complaint is I have to drive from the west side of the river. Please open another store! Y'all are a hidden gem in your current location.

*Edit at the bottom* Absolutely delicious food here. Found out about this place from a coworker. Love the atmosphere and food. The sandwiches are great, the appetizers are delicious, and you can even get Kool-aid here lol. I got "The Chronic" roast beef sandwich on garlic toast with an order of garlic cheese bread and the "Punch Man" Kool-aid fruit punch. The bread on the sandwich was amazing and the garlic cheese bread had the perfect amount of cheese to bread ratio. Will definitely be back again! Came back. Kellie Mae was amazing! She kept us involved with the bar and was helping teach other workers the specials. The food was amazing and we even were gifted a captain crunch marshmello treat! My wife absolutely loved the Greek bowl of balls. Best place in BR by far!

Revised 11/5/21: I have returned to Cheba Hut and find it to have improved quite a bit, even as they were planning an official grand opening party. I am cautiously optimistic that they have and will continue to show better service and quality, and I look forward to hopefully seeing them prosper in the months and years to come. I will say that it is better to go when you have time to sit and enjoy your meal, as this is not a place for a super quick bite (but it still beats some sandwich places, like Subway, by a marathon), and I look forward to returning on a recurring basis. Thank you.

Original review: 1 out of 5 stars (9/28/21) Unfortunately, although my first experience to Cheba Hut was pretty good, my second one left a lot to be desired. I ordered my food for pickup on the Waitr app, and it told me it would be ready between 12:50 and 1 PM. It notified me around 12:55 my order was ready, and by the time I got there around 1:05 PM, not only was my order NOT ready but it was also not even being made yet. Their excuses were the Waitr app was automated with pickup times that they didn't control, which I find questionable given I have ordered food for pickup many a time from other restaurants and, unless I got there before I got the "your order is ready for pickup" notification, it was always ready, and the second excuse was that they had a lot of orders (which seemed a bit questionable given the lunch crowd was normal and there were MANY people working behind the counter, easily 3-4 times as many compared to similar sandwich shops). They also did not make my sandwich correctly, did not have another item I ordered, and the order was finally finished around 1:20.

I will cut them some slack because they are new, but unless things change very quickly, the marijuana novelty may hold on for LSU students and South Baton Rouge residents given Mellow Mushroom's demise, but not much else. I may give them another chance, but I do not intend to return until I get word they improve either with communication of order and supplies or I have a lot of...

Tonight was my first time here after hearing so many good things. The food here is genuinely good and clearly made with care. All of the sandwiches were phenomenal. I’d absolutely come back for the sandwiches alone. But the service experience really took away from the overall enjoyment.

We sat at the bar, and from the moment we arrived, it felt like we were an afterthought. The bartender did not greet us, offer drinks when we sat down, or even said hello. We had to flag down the bartender for everything; ordering, drink refills, even paying the check. He wouldn't even walk over to take our orders, we had to yell to him where he was standing at the computer. He also completely ignored anyone in the group who said hi or asked how he was doing, just wordlessly handed us the menus and walked away, and never checked in on us after we had gotten our food. He was very preoccupied with his phone. It wasn't especially busy, so it was frustrating to feel like we were interrupting rather than being served.

It’s a shame, because the kitchen is doing great work, and the guys who brought our food out provided a better customer experience in the five seconds it took to hand off our food than the bartender did in an hour. A little more attention from the front of house, especially at the bar, would go a long way in making the experience match the quality of the food. I probably won't be back for a...

A long time ago, I used to go to the original Cheba Hut in Tempe, AZ. I loved it, but after moving away, I hadn’t been to one in ages. A random Tuesday pickup in Baton Rouge finally gave me the chance to revisit an old favorite.

Some things have changed—you used to be able to watch them make your sandwiches, adding something on a whim or getting an idea from the sandwich maker. Now there’s a glass partition, and you’re not really sure if that sandwich being made is yours. But the menu? Almost untouched. Every favorite of mine is still there, with the same playfully weed-strain-named sammies and sizes. And the goo balls—always my absolute favorite.

I ordered my all-time go-to, the tuna melt (Pacific Blue). Somewhere along the way, they switched the cheese to cheddar? I always remembered it with Swiss. I wish I had noticed that on the menu, but honestly, I loved my sandwich anyway.

And this location has a bar! Back in the day, we used to sneak in beers—no one ever said anything—but that was probably around 2003, practically on ASU’s campus. The bar here had a fabulous bartender. I wish I had gotten her name because she truly made my day and is a fantastic face for Cheba Hut. Super friendly, and when I told her I hadn’t been to a Cheba Hut in 17 years, she was full of important information. A real gem.

So, if you’re on the fence about trying this...
