I was impressed with the burger here.
I got the AB sauce on the side. The sauce was very good. I want to say it's like a tangy-er gourmet version of big mac sauce.
On to the burger. WOW. Soft, airy bread, slightly toasted, on the patty sides, and buttered. The way I like it. The bread was killer! The meat seemed flat grilled with that flat-grilled crisp to the meat, which I really like. The meat patty was perfectly salted and black peppered. It tasted like black pepper. The patty had a "crumbly-tender" texture, which was not dry, and really showcased the high quality of the meat used. The cheese was properly well melted throughout the 2 meat patty burger. The produce was fresh and quality. The bun was still connected on one side, I guess for the presentation. I quickly fixed it to where the meat is proportionately placed around the bun.
THOSE FRIES!!! I don't remember the last time I've had an entire order of hand cut fries so good (consistent). Usually some are more or less dry with that chalky dry potato texture. Not on this order. All fries were not dry on the inside, and were properly salted, had that perfect sweet spot of crispness, and where there was just enough texture so the salt stuck just right to the fry.
I was not impressed at all with the bbq sauce. My second favorite sauce was the spicy ketchup. The AB sauce was my favorite. The aoli's were too much of a food lube consistency. And the flavors were drowned by the mayo flavor.
I got the edamame to try, and it was quality.
I did not get a shake, but that liquid nitrogen breathing on the counter was awesome for presentation. It may be visible in my picture.
It looked like beer was offered. I don't care for rabbit ice.
I hope they get a second location...
Read moreTonight was the third time I visited Atomic Burger and it will also be my last. After reading many positive reviews, I figured my first (turkey jam burger) and second (classic atomic burger) visits must have been flukes. How could all these people be wrong? I have found each visit to consistently be overpriced, service to be just ok and the food to be completely unremarkable, with the burgers bordering bad. Seems like the "brand" is just the idea that they use nitrogen to make shakes and that it looks like a 50s burger chain. I've now had two of the classic atomic burgers, each time hoping the flavor of anything would improve. All I taste on the burgers and fries here is salt, and I am from Louisiana where we salt everything to death and it still tastes good. I also tried a shake one visit which was very ordinary and forgettable. Even the ice for my fountain drink melts in just a few minutes in cold weather (is there an ice shortage??) and my sodas are consistently flat. The final negative from my visit tonight was the staff forgetting the sauce for my fries, which is supposed to be included (did I mention how expensive this place is??).
I do not understand the hype and would suggest you try other food options in Baton Rouge, especially at these prices. There are incredibly good burger options to choose from elsewhere. I suggest Fat Cow which is similarly priced, or if you're simply interested in a 50s burger, try to find an In-n-Out (none in Baton Rouge yet).
Two stars for being clean and...
Read moreThese fresh-ground burgers are pretty good. The basic burger is a 2-patty burger that's stacked on a smaller than average bun, giving it the illusion of being sort of small. It is not "small" in any way!
I've loved green chile burgers all my life. I never thought someone local would offer one, but Atomic Burger has my number. It's my favorite, obviously.
Their fries are pretty awesome, but the Burbank location ruins them with WAY too much salt. Even a friend of mine who famously loves to salt everything said they were too salty. With all the choices of dipping sauces & ketchups offered, it would make more sense to leave the fries unsalted & let the customer decide. We tossed out half our fries uneaten because of the extreme saltiness. And that is the only reason I gave them 4 stars instead of 5.
Fix the salty fries at the Burbank location & I'm a 5-star review just waiting for you! Oddly enough the fries weren't oversalted in the first few weeks after opening, but 2 later visits, including today's, have turned up oversalted destruction of what would otherwise be called the most masterfully crispy hand-cut fries...
