My friends and I went to chilitos because they are open late. We wanted food so this seemed like the perfect place. When we get there they hand us menus sitting at a normal dining table. They asked what we wanted for drinks so two of us ordered mango margaritas and other order plain water. The waitress first only brings us the margs then brings the plain water and tells us the kitchen is closed. We nicely explained to them at first that we felt that something should’ve been said when we sat down even though they gave us menus. We asked to not pay for the drinks that we didn’t drink enough to make a dent in it and to just let us leave due to their mistake. Our waitress kindly said she would just pay for them. We did not blame her but the manger kept telling her that we had to pay. She then said that we had to also pay for the water because there was lime in it but my friend never asked for lime in her water. As a bartender you should never put something in someone’s drink that wasn’t asked for to ensure that you get money. The manager failed to tell her workers about the kitchen closing knowing what time we walked in. The manager didn’t take any accountability on her part. She also said water isn’t free after 10pm. This is wrong on the fact that some customers might get so drunk and order water in a cup then be hit with a water charge because they desperately need one. This place puts money as a priority rather than their customers...
Read moreCame here because we wanted to experience local vibe, eat fish and have a drink. This place, close to our hotel had good reviews. Something to mention for 1st timers is that Chilito’s is a Mexican sports bar with music by Vincente Fernandez blasting out on all speakers and 2 big screen TVs playing soccer matches. Since the staff spoke Spanish, my Spanish speaking husband ordered. We were given a basket of salsa and stale chips leading off to a slow start. The ceviche appetizer consisted of boiled shrimp and white fish cut up with green peppers topped with some sort of watered down cocktail sauce served on a stale taco was quite mediocre and not what I expected given the dish’s name. Score : 0 for 2. Next, the 3 taco meal (we requested 1 each of shrimp, chicken and beef) were served on soft taco shells and were better with the shrimp and chicken the best and beef quite chewy and unsatisfying. We ordered a red snapper filet plate - as per menu cooked to your request - broiled, was surprisingly and quite excellent. It was served fajita style on a sizzling hot plate heaping with Caramelized onions, tomatoes, peppers and a side dish of plantains and iceberg lettuce and was by far the most excellent fish meal we’ve eaten so far in New Orleans, thus scoring a big goal! While we did not stay for karaoke which started at 8:00 pm, I’m sure from the slow gathering Spanish speaking crowd it was going to be a fun Sunday evening...
Read moreI work in the government building right next to the place, my lunch time starts exactly at 11:50 am and ends 1pm. I went to order a quesadilla to eat there, keep in mind that the place only had another table of 4 guys drinking beers. I waited almost a whole hour and still didn’t receive any food besides chips and salsa… The guys at the table weren’t receiving anything either so i didn't want to be rude and walk out. I went up to one of the ladies who worked there and before i can say anything she had an attitude saying for me to be patient. I let her know i had to be at work for 1 and it was 15 minutes till i go back in. I offered to still pay for my food but the attitude and non chalantness made me walk out. Thank god im not from this area, seems like a lot of these restaurants...
