I drove past Golden China and realized a new restaurant has opened in Laplace. I noticed the now open sign hanging in front and made plans to give them a try. We have quite a few Chinese restaurants in Laplace, so I was hoping this one would be a little different from the rest (perhaps a buffet or some hibachi to order). I was going to stop by on Sunday and headed to the restaurant at about 6:30 pm. It was closed! I am guessing they don't open on Sundays, but maybe they closed early or maybe the were just closed this Sunday.
So, Monday came and I thought I would try again. My family and I arrived at the restaurant at about 7:15 and was immediately seated (there was only one other family in the restaurant). We looked at the menu and I ordered the General Tso Chicken Dinner with shrimp fried rice and an eggroll and my daughter ordered the Honey Chicken Dinner also with the shrimp fried rice and eggroll. I was looking for a small order of lo mein to try, but that was not an available option, you had order a plate which would have been between $11-$14 so I passed.
The egg rolls were brought out first. They had shrimp inside and tasted ok. I paired the eggroll with some of the in house made duck sauce which was pretty good. Next the entrees came out. The portion sizes are really large. We each received a plate full of chicken and a bowl of shrimp fried rice. The chicken was very saucy (maybe a little to much) but didn't have much flavor. The honey chicken lacked the honey taste and the General Tso Chicken usually has some spice to it, but this one did not. The shrimp fried rice was really good and was my favorite part of the meal.
The service was also good. All in all I thought the whole experience was just average and I honestly would not be in a rush to return. I wasn't wowed enough to make this my new Chinese stop especially with the many other similar options we have...
Read moregiving the benefit of 2 stars because i havent had much Chinese food before so maybe it's just not for me. I really had to choke my meal down and in the end couldn't finish it. The shrimp fried rice had no flavor, the mandarin chicken gravy was like a nutty dusty white gravy with not much flavor, especially not no mandarin/orange flavor, no tang or sweetness at all. The garlic beef was 90% vegetable and not garlicky at all. the flavor of the vegetables rubbed off on the beef more than the beef/garlic flavor rubbed off on the vegetables which is what it should have been like. just ended up with beef that tasted like it came straight out of vegetable stock and bland vegetables. I was holding out hope for the crab rangoons bc how do you even make a bad crab rangoon ? it wasnt good, very little filling and what was there was overly fishy. and the sauce that came with it tasted like straight up hersheys strawberry syrup, never had a sweet n sour sauce that tasted that way. a very disappointing $45 meal. will not be returning. the eggroll was pretty mid tho but after trying all the disaster food items i couldn't even stomach the...

The price was great, $12 for a FULL dinner plate.. I ordered the Mandarin Chicken w/ shrimp fried rice. My girlfriend order the Garlic Chicken spicy. Neither my girlfriend nor myself could finish all the food. Definitely going to have left overs. Food was nothing less than amazing. Fresh cooked, hot, and perfectly done. They've even included HOMEMADE duck sauce. The best shrimp fried rice I've had in my life. Most restaurants are over cooked and dried out, this was well seasoned and very moist.
I used to go to Dragon Garden all the time, but they've gotten way to expensive charging nearly 18 dollars each dinner plate.
I will DEFINITELY be coming back for more. Great job Golden China, you've got yourself a...
