We stopped in for lunch on New Year’s Day. We were looking for Mexican food, but wanted something different than typical Tex Mex. This restaurant offered a flavorful and fresh alternative to other restaurants in the area. Overall, it was an excellent experience.
To start, we had tomato salsa, guacamole, and cheese dip served with tortilla chips. The chips were served warm, and all of dips were excellent. The guacamole had a good helping of cilantro, and was topped with cotija cheese, and was tasty.
Next, we ordered steak tacos with a side of grilled green onions, and flaka veggie tacos with a side of refried beans and street corn. The steak was fresh and well seasoned. The grilled green onions were something we had not seen on other restaurants’ menus - they tasted good, and we were glad we tried them. The veggie tacos had corn, grilled onions and peppers, and mushrooms; I added pickled cabbage. They had a savory flavor and were good. I added some of the extra cilantro that fell from the other dish, which made it even better. The tacos came on blue corn tortillas. Both taco plates came with salsas - a red salsa that was very spicy, and a green salsa that was bright in flavor. The refried beans were not the typical light brown refried pintos; they appeared to be refried black beans and tasted great. They also didn’t have the typical sticky / mortar texture of other restaurants’ beans. The street corn was also good - I would have liked some charring on the corn. I didn’t know to ask since this was our first time at this restaurant.
Overall, the service was very good and attentive. The restaurant was...
Read moreI went here on a Thursday evening with my partner after we had gone to a couple of other places that were far too busy. Initially the hostess said the wait would only be 15 minutes, and to be honest I did not count but it did seem longer. However, once a table was available we were quickly seated. The staff seemed to be working very hard that night and we’re very tentative without being overbearing. Our drinks were brought to us very quickly and our order was taken very soon after being seated. I was very pleased with the vibrant atmosphere, which I had not expected. This restaurant is not like other typical Mexican restaurants in south Louisiana. The atmosphere is much younger and more upbeat than most. Our meals arrived in an impressively short amount of time considering the amount of customers that were there. I had the Racheras and he had three tacos, all of which was incredible. I will say, if you enjoy very large portions you will likely be disappointed. I and my partner personally found the portions to be perfect in size, but they are not the large portions to which Americans are accustomed. The service was friendly and engaging without being too much, and we were glad we had decided to eat here. We left feeling full but not bloated and heavy like a lot of restaurant food can make you feel. I highly recommend this restaurant and look forward to eating...
Read moreI hate leaving bad reviews, but today was just one of those days.. 6 people, sat us at a four top, so we wound up asking if we could put someone on the end(didn’t want to and they didn’t like it) waiter was off from the beginning. The restaurant was not busy, we popped in after lunch rush. Our waiter rushed us beyond anything I’ve experienced, after we told him we were good for awhile with drinks and apps he still came up to table 6 more times in a pretty small span to ask us to order. After the last “we’re good for awhile” he then completely ignored us. Another waitress did refills and such for us(on her own accord) When he did come back to the table he was rude, even to the kids. When he wasn’t ghosting us he was just standoffish in a way we couldn’t understand. He didn’t check his attitude until it was time to pay, not surprised. Most of my jobs have been in the food service industry, so I know how hard it can be, especially if they sat him when his shift was almost done. Even though I get it, it’s not an excuse to treat your customers like that. Bummed it happen, will go back but to the madisonville...
