Look, I understand that this is a locally owned pizzeria and not a BIG chain store, but for the cost to value of goods, I just cannot support this. I base this opinion on several things that my wife and I experienced during our dining experience.
First off, the price. It has been literally years since my wife and I dined at this restaurant and we thought it would be fun to visit and eat while supporting a local establishment. The place was busy for a Friday night, but there was a table available when we walked in. She loves their taco pizza and is excited to order that since, again, it has been years.
We look at the pricing for a 8” personal pizza and I am floored. Almost $20 for a 8” pizza? WOW! This is not including drinks or salad bar………….nothing added, that is just the pizza. Now, I understand inflation and the cost of goods have gone up, but holy smokes, that is a nice chunk of change for a personal pizza.
My wife asks if she can order a one-time trip to the salad bar and is told no. If she wants the salad bar, then it is $7+ dollars for the all you can eat salad bar. Or they can bring you a house salad of lettuce & tomato for just shy of $4. I don’t eat tomatoes but am told that I could get the house salad minus the tomatoes. So literally, just lettuce and some dressing for $4? I’ll pass, thanks. Too bad they missed a perfect opportunity to up sell here.
I ordered the all meat 8” personal pizza at a staggering $23+ dollars and in my mind, I know I will never come back here just because of the cost alone.
The server then brings the taco sauce for my wife’s pizza and the sauce inside the bottle at the top is dried up, the tip is broken off, cap is nonexistent, and there is dried taco sauce on the outside of the top. My wife opts to not use it due to this and the potential consumption safety concern there.
My pizza arrives and it is loaded with Italian sausage and beef. Somewhere under all the sausage and beef, I can make out a few pepperonis and some Canadian bacon. What I can’t seem to find is much sauce or cheese. The Italian sausage and beef completely overwhelm what little of the other ingredients there are, and the crust itself really doesn’t have much of a flavor at all. I end up scraping the majority of the sausage and beef off of the pizza. At this point, I KNEW the bill was going to be high, but I suppose that is the price you pay for nostalgia. The bill arrives, and it is just shy of $50 for the following: 2- 8” pizzas & 2 drinks.
I tipped accordingly at 18%-20% and as I signed the merchant copy of the bill, I knew I would not be returning here. Not trying to be mean at all here, but I have had better tasting pizza from Papa John’s, Little Caesar, & Pizza Hut for a fraction of the cost. The only thing West Main Pizza delivers for me is a bit of nostalgia and for it to cost me almost $60 for two mediocre pizzas and a couple of drinks, I’ll take my business elsewhere.
Please understand, the owners did nothing wrong at all, just when it comes to people’s perception of value and quality, West Main Pizza did not meet my expectations. That is all. The cost to value for me was not there which simply means I will not frequent this establishment in the future based on what I feel quality and services...
Read moreThe pizza is very good. It has a thin crispy crust, but not cracker style. They are very generous with toppings. But the way they arrange them is questionable. I ordered pepperoni and olives, and there's a pile of olives in the middle of the pizza on top, like they just dumped a big can of them in the middle after it came out of the oven. This makes it hard to eat because they roll around like marbles on top of the other stuff. Olives should go on the cheese before the pizza is cooked so that they anchor in and don't prevent the pepperoni from rendering. But still, awesome pizza. And that's what it's all about. The pizza. Everything else on the menu is mediocre.
Be aware that they go light on the sauce and cheese. This is done to ensure a Krispy crust, but I always order extra sauce because it doesn't make a difference. And I like to taste the sauce.
There's a few main issues I have that lower the score. For one, they seem to randomly be closed for no legitimate reason and with no indication that they will be, or are closed. Check the date before you order, because if there's a random holiday anywhere, they'll probably be closed for it. And not just for the day. I've seen them close for nearly 2 weeks for a minor holiday. I guess they can afford to do this because of my next main issue.
The price. The prices are obscene. These are prices I would expect to see and some hoity-toity, upscale New York City restaurant that prrys on the yuppies, not in a small local business. This is why we only go every 3 months or so instead of twice a month.
My last issue is that they won't modernize at all. Good luck getting through on the phone to make an order. When there's 30 people trying to call, and they're super busy in the kitchen, just give up and order from Redfish Pizza. Not quite as good, but still good. It's just not worth trying to get through for a half hour.
5 Star Pizza, minus 2 stars for various issues. If you manage to avoid the issues, you're in for some...
Read moreThis place almost turned me away completely because of the very high prices ($14+tax 10" pizza, $20+tax for 13" pizza... 1 topping)
However... even though I ended up getting a smaller pizza than I wanted due to price, I still didn't finish half of it! The abundant toppings and cheese and high quality (fluffy inside but crunchy outisde) crust really filled me up and was quite satisfying.
My appetizer (breadsticks) came out quick, were very good and seasoned and cooked perfectly--easily worth the $2 price tag.
The pizza came out in about 20 minutes and was served extremely hot and fresh. Though I only got a plain ole pepperoni pie, this thing was absolutely covered with pepperonis. Like probably 60+ of them on the 10" pizza, if I had to estimate. The pepperonis themselves seemed high quality, tasted really good even alone. My only complaint would be that all the pepperonis on the outer rim were really burnt/charred.
Overall I was satisfied, but some of the huge prices for bigger and specialty pizzas really puzzles me. The 15" specialty pizzas are mostly $40! That's crazy high. This place might have dethroned Peppers but the prices are surprising unless you get a very small...
