Came down to Louisville for my brother's birthday, and since we're self-proclaimed pizza aficionados, we chose to try this establishment after watching a more than convincing vid from a Louisville Youtuber on their deep dish pizza. It was pretty busy for an early Sunday afternoon and bustling with families. The decor is 1970s to a tee with lots of dark brown accents, but didn't appear to be "run-down" or "smelly" as other reviews indicated. We chose their deep dish pizza or how they refer to it as "pie" baked in a cast iron frying pan. It takes about an hour to cook so we ordered ahead and we forgot until we arrived that it's cash-only. It was a unique tasting pizza unlike any deep dish I've had before. I liked the mixing of all of the flavors from bite one, although the combination of veggies watered things down quite a bit. It didn't come pre-sliced which was disappointing as I'm not much of a pie cutter, and it made a kind of a mess as the crust is very thick and dense. Don't expect a buttery and flaky crust as it requires such a dough consistency to bake and hold everything together in the first place. I personally wasn't a fan of the crust, although my brother was. I would've preferred it softer so it could be easier to cut and have a mouthful of both the pizza contests and crust at the same time. I ended up scooping the contents from the pizza and leaving the crust alone. I would've liked to have tried their thin-crust as well, but was way too full. Maybe next time if we're ever down in...
Read moreThe pizza Was pretty good, BUT unfortunately it's not just about the pizza. First and foremost when we walked in and when we went up to order three people walked past us and didn't even acknowledge us which is the rudest thing as an employee you could ever do to a customer. When the girl finally decided to come take our order she was so rude that I couldn't even make this stuff up! She had her hand on her face like she was tired of me, wouldn't even let me finish asking questions before she started answering me, rolled her eyes several times , I was actually in shock!!! Who talks to a customer like that?? Then had the nerve after she gave me my change to sit and watch me to see if I tipped and then once I did turned around and walked away. I probably will not come back just because of her. Not to mention $1.75 for a large fountain drink with NO REFILLS when it cost them about 17...
Read moreThis is one of the "defrocked Shakeys pizza" establishments who kept the recipes and changed their name when Shakeys hit the skids in the mid-1970s. Amazing how the pizza topping, sauce, and the crunchy-garlicky crust is just as I remember it from my childhood. No 3 piece band with straw hats and the red and white striped shirts (piano, banjo, and string bass usually), but you can buy soft drinks and beer by the pitcher and the pizza is some of the least expensive pizza for the size and quality. Cash only means you should hit the bank before coming in, but there are few places in town you can sit down after 10pm (after 11pm on weekends) and get a handmade pizza and something to drink any day of the week. Come in with friends and when you split the pies, it is really economical, without...
