This makes me so sad to write because we have been such big fans of Quills…
My husband, Jordan, and I are from out of town and come to Norton Commons to stay and visit with family. One of our favorite things to do while we are here is go for a morning walk and pick up Quills coffee.
This morning, we went to pick up coffee and had a truly appalling and disheartening experience with the staff. We ordered a large cold brew and a latte for $12. After 20 or so minutes, the latte wasn’t made so Jordan checked with the barista as to why it wasn’t out yet. This began an almost 45 minute exchange between us and the barista in which we were told many untrue things like we hadn’t been charged for the drink, that the drink wasn’t put into the queue, that they could only refund us for the cold brew since the latte hadn’t been put in.
We then showed the barista our mobile receipt to get our refund (because even at this point he still had not remedied the situation by just immediately making a latte, instead stating “there are other orders ahead of you”). He then proceeds to spend unnecessary time at the register trying to find our order and is unsuccessful despite me showing him the charge to our mobile credit card app.
ALL of this could have been smoothed over if the barista had just recognized his mistake, apologized, and made the drink in a timely fashion. It will be very difficult for us to be returning customers after...
Read moreIt's wonderful to have a Quills location in northeastern Louisville. The interior has a sort of industrial feel with large windows, letting in plenty of natural lighting. It has never been too crowded when I've stopped by since many patrons come and go, and there is ample seating in my opinion. The service and coffee here are consistently excellent. Restrooms have always been clean. The baristas are friendly, welcoming, and skilled, too. Support them and tip them!
My favorite go-to's are the following: (1) either a 12 or 16 oz americano with four shots of espresso or (2) a pour-over. The pour-over is perfect! They use an automatic system that's very precise and produces a consistent cup in a timely manner. (The brand is Marco, I think.) Come and support this...
Read moreA missed opportunity here. A dense part of Norton Commons with potential for higher consumer traffic, but everything about this coffee stop was bland.
The barren pastry shelf with obvious day-old items was underwhelming, orders were backed up when it wasn’t even busy and after all that, the coffee was just fine.
They have a lot of square footage and wall space which is also underutilized and under visualized. You can also see into the messy back-of-house through a gapping opening in the wall where a door could be put to good use.
Oh well, but if free wi-fi and working remotely slouched over your laptop is your jam, this place is for you. As the only coffee shop in Norton Commons, I hope...
