I had a craving for real authentic Mexican one day but being in a small town normally I would have to go all the way to Grand Rapids for it. After a quick google search I found Sabor Mexicano, a new restaurant that just opened only 10 mins from me in Lowell. I braved the cold and went in search for my perfect authentic quesadilla (if you know authentic then you know what I’m talking about). A short drive later I walked into this small but quaint and cozy little restaurant tucked back by the water. I was greeted right away by the hostess who was super amazing, friendly and helpful when I told her i was a new customer and wanted to place a to go order. With my order of 6 steak tacos (hungry husband and 11 year old at home) and a fully loaded chicken quesadilla placed I was short $2 but the hostess was very understanding and told me she had it covered and even offered me a drink while I waited for my food. After about 15 mins my food was ready to go and I couldn’t wait to dig in when I got back home! Now for the good part….. when I say this place is authentic I mean it is AUTHENTIC all the way around people!!! My fully loaded quesadilla was exactly that, fully loaded with chicken, onion, guacamole, cheese , sour cream, and cilantro. It was perfect and I couldn’t put it down sooo gooood!!! Even my 1 year old who’s never had Mexican before kept coming back to me for more bites!! I was very satisfied with my whole experience and will definitely be a returning customer, possibly...

To start, the server will bring a basket of homemade tortilla chips and FOUR (4) different salsas. There's a traditional salsa Verde (it's kinda runny, be careful), a creamier salsa Verde (my favorite), a red salsa and an orange(ish) salsa (my second favorite). I love all the salsas. None of them are overpoweringly hot and all have their own unique flavor.
Next, be sure to order the house-made agua lime. It's so so so so good!!! It's similar to our limeade but somehow way better.
I got asada tacos which were delicious. They came with rice and beans. The refried beans were some of the best I've ever had. They're runny, but in a delicious, scoop-them-up-with-chips kind of way.
My husband got beef empanadas and thoroughly enjoyed them.
Our food was served HOT and fresh, but yet didn't take a long time.
If you still have room when you're done with all that, I 10/10 recommend the tres leches cake. It's phenomenal!!!!
Other stuff: the owner is super sweet and interesting to talk to. You can often hear the cooks singing or aye-aye-aying. 🤣 It sounds like they truly...
Read moreWe stopped for lunch cause we read all of the reviews on how great the food was. Well, let me tell you, it was extremely disappointing!
The ambiance was similar to a hole-in-the-wall place you might find in Mexico, but it looked clean.
It took 10 minutes for someone to bring us menus after we were seated. When someone finally brought us a bowl of chips, they were glistening with grease. The 2 I tried to eat were half crunchy and half chewy. We couldn’t even eat them.
I ordered the shrimp tacos, which had 5 little shrimp, a bunch of cilantro and some diced onion. That was it. And it was $4.00. The tacos were okay, but would have been better with some refried beans or rice.
My son had a regular burrito, and he said there was a lot of filling, but the rice just tasted like bland white rice.
Apparently all the people who led 4.5+ reviews have never had truly good Mexican food. The Cantina or Tres Amigos are 100 times better and their chips won’t give you a stomach ache. This meal was not even as good as Taco Bell, and TB is meh.
Needless to say, we won’t make the trek to Lowell...
