What a nice place! I have never felt so welcome at a restaurant before. Kieko is such a friendly hostess. I'm not Japanese, but I am intrigued with Japanese culture. This restaurant immerses you in Japanese traditions. From the bamboo grain on the tables to the real (non disposable) chopsticks. I really felt like I was having dinner with a Japanese friend rather than being customer number 13 some place else.
The food is delicious! We sampled quite a few items on the menu. The portions were just right, every bite was bursting with refreshing flavor, and the presentation was elegant and placed on the table with careful precision. I ordered the Pork Shumai as an appetizer and it was so good that I felt sad when I lifted the last dumpling from the bamboo steamer, knowing that there wouldn't be another. For my main dish I ordered the Shrimp curry. The curry had the perfect level of spicy flavor and I ate every drop! The breading on the shrimp was perfect as well. I'm still trying to figure out how they were able to line up that many shrimp of exactly the same size and shape... For desert, I ordered the pancakes with red bean paste. They were quite yummy, indeed! LOL
Oh, if you like a wide selection of beverages. This place has a little bit of everything! Seriously! They have Oolong iced tea! Who does that? I loved it BTW!
I will definitely return. Besides, after 10 visits they set aside chopsticks of your very own with your name on them and everything!
I most certainly recommend visiting! You won't be disappointed. Besides, isn't it about time you took your wife or significant...

The restaurant is opened by the Japanese power couple Nobu-san and Keiko-san. Nobu-san's knife skills, Keiko-san's Japanese hospitality, and the wide selection of hot and cold sake makes this one of my favorite place to visit.
A single bite of a salmon or tuna nigiri will tell you that this is not like your Chinese buffet sushi. The fish is thick, buttery, and soft. The ramen is creamy, porky, and rich. Their vegan roll is creatively decorated to resemble real sushi. The dessert is a fusion of eastern and western cuisine, such as the green tea creme brulee, coconut and green tea agar jelly, and the traditional green tea ceremony set.
Don't let the location of the restaurant deter you from seeking this place out. I know it's strange to find such a hidden gem in NE Philly, but this is...
Read moreThis place was very expensive. The sushi and ramen where just OK. The service was horrible. Our waiter tried to tell us that the appetizers were buy one get one half off and the owner walked by and starts vigorously shaking her head at him. The waiter then says never mind. I walk out and look at the door and it clearly says "buy one app get one half off". So when we got our bill she didn't give it to us and we had to ask why we couldn't get the deal? Finally she ended up giving it us. It was a very odd experience and we didn't understand why she did not want to give it to us. We were spending over $60. Very difficult to order and they didn't even have the California roll on the menu. Everything is extra in the sushi and soups. I won't be back for sure. Very...
