Another fantastic meal at Mayer's Tavern. Tonight I had the yogurt marinated chicken. It was really hard not to get the scallops but I was just there last week so I convinced myself to try something different. Family who I had dinner with both got the scallops and when their plates were delivered I was feeling a little regret looking at the amazing plate of scallops but that quickly changed when I took the first bite of my chicken.
The chicken was just as fantastic as the scallops. A perfectly cooked airline breast with crispy skin and tender juicy breast seasoned nicely and served with polenta and greens. Everything I have tried has been really well prepared, thoughtfully seasoned and complimented by sides and sauces that elevate the flavor of top quality ingredients prepared with attention to detail.
Can't wait to return and try some more great menu items or specials. If I lived closer I'd be a regular for sure. Very limited menu but what they do they do very well. Great dishes I've tried: Scallops of course, mussels, crab fritters, yogurt marinated Chicken, Zucchini and Squash with green goddess dressing (app special),...
Read moreMy family and I visit Cape May each year, and tried Mayer's last year and then again last night. Made a nice impression last year but really knocked it out of the park last night. Sure, the menu is small, but that encourages the kitchen to focus on the freshest seafood, thoughtfully prepared. The fried scallops is Mayer's feature dish for a reason. The scallops are sweet and silky, complemented perfectly by a remoulade. Loved the broiled oysters with pimento cheese, and the crab fritters, which were taken to a higher level by a light and lively green sauce. Baked clams were creamy and flavorful, though the portion size should vary based on the size of the clams. The special, a whole black bass broiled with lemon, white wine, olives, and herbs, was the highlight of the night. Simple, clean decor, with many local beers on tap, and even live music some nights. Order the youngest at your table mac and cheese, and encourage your other children to stretch their pallets on fresh,...
Read moreThis is a perfect location to grab a drink after the cape may whale watcher or after fishing. However this place is not kid friendly. We arrived at 7:30 after whale watching to grab a few drinks outside with a few friends and our children. After ordering a round of drinks and sitting near the band, a rude hostess told us our kids could not dance or enjoy the band. We looked around and the other tables and no one had an issue with us. The table behind us was even laughing asking us why is she yelling at you. We were outside on the driveway listening to the band who also was enjoying our kids. This hostess proceeded to yell a second time about kids outside and glass being outside and that’s when our group left as well as the other group behind us as we didn’t want to spend money on a place that didn’t want us there. It’s a shame because it is a good location for families to use after going on a boat ride and hopefully these hostess learns to appreciate...
