Last night I had the pleasure of dining at Tony and Penny’s in Ludlow, and I can honestly say it was one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in a long time. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warmth and hospitality that instantly set the tone for the evening.The standout of the night was without question our hostess, Heidi. She embodies everything you could ever hope for in a front-of-house professional — gracious, welcoming, and genuinely attentive. Heidi greeted us with a bright smile, made us feel immediately at home, and went above and beyond to ensure we had the perfect table and a seamless experience from start to finish. Her professionalism was matched by her warm personality, and it was clear she takes real pride in making every guest feel valued. The food, of course, was exceptional. Tony and Penny’s delivers authentic Portuguese cuisine that is both flavorful and comforting. Every dish was cooked to perfection, with the kind of depth and richness that only comes from recipes rooted in tradition and passion. The portions were generous, the flavors bold yet balanced, and each bite reminded me why this restaurant has such a stellar reputation in the community. We had a get together with family and friends yesterday after my step-daughter’s funeral service. My husband’s family has been having their family events at Tony & Penny’s for years. It’s a family tradition. Naturally, with the recent death of my step-daughter, my husband and I went to Tony & Penny’s to book the banquet room. It wasn’t available due to another event already taking place. Fatima went out of her way to accommodate us. She offered the dining room but it wouldn’t work due to the amount of people we were expecting. She then got on the phone to see what other venues were available. She tried the Polish Club, Fish and Game Club and one was already booked and the other venue wasn’t going to work for our group. She kept on going until she found us the Ludlow Portuguese Club. We can’t thank her and her staff enough for going out of their way during a difficult time. We just can’t say enough about Tony & Penny’s. They provided the food, linens and service. Everyone couldn’t say enough about how delicious the food was and how beautiful the Portuguese Club was. I would highly recommend working with Fatima to plan your banquet event. She really impressed us and went above and beyond. She made a sad and stressful time, easier for us by ironing out the details. I had the most awful take out experience ever. I ordered dobrada that would feed 7-8 people for a 50th birthday party and when we went to eat it we were disappointed to taste that the tripe was well under cooked (rubbery). To top everything off there was little dobrada also - mostly beans. $150.00 for beans??? Needless to say nobody ate the dobrada so I decided to take it back to the restaurant the next day to inform them of my experience. This turned out to be quite the experience in itself. The manager was no help - she started to count the few pieces of dobrada and said it looked fine to her. As she was counting the owner (Tony) came out of his office and started to argue with me that the dobrada was not under cooked and he made it himself!!! Really!! He did not even taste it but continued to argue that it was fine. I have never in my life experienced such behavior of a restaurant owner. I was not looking for a refund as I specified to him just a simple "sorry." My family and I have been regular customers for about 20 years but after this experience I will never...
