Hunan — Restaurant in Lufkin

Our 1st visit here. The service was exceptional! Theresa was So kind and accommodating! The flavor of their hot n sour soup took me right back to my favorite spot in Houston, however, the chicken for the orange and general tso was a little off; Like it was dropped in the fryer again to re-heat it up, so ended up over cooked and lacked the freshness I had hoped for. (We almost had that chinese place in the mall, but you could tell it wasn't fresh, cuz it sits out in the warmers, so we looked up something on line and chose Hunan based on its ratings.) I feel like I need to write a review because this place is rated so high. It’s really dried out food, overly saucy, and weirdly quite inside. There’s no fruit or many other items I usually find at Chinese buffets. The egg drop soup was terrible. The princess chicken was so dried out. There’s just really not that much to choose from. You can tell it’s a lot of low quality ingredients and things have sat under the heat lamps to long.

I usually don’t write low reviews… but we where expecting to have a decent meal. We didn’t go back for seconds if that...

I grew up in the Diboll/Lufkin area and have been going to Hunan's since the early 90's. I actually had my high school graduation dinner here. My cousins from Houston were blown away by the quality and tastiness of this place. The buffet is better than any place you would visit in the DFW metroplex (where I live now) and the Mongolian beef is the best I've ever had. Every time I go home to visit family, I visit Hunan's first. So happy there is new ownership to continue this great business for generations to come! Lufkin/east Texas is lucky to...
