IF YOUR A PERSON OF COLOR DON'T GO HERE LOOKING FOR A JOB BECAUSE YOU WON'T GET HIRED. WHEN SOMEONE FROM MANAGEMENT PLACED AN AD ON CRAIGSLIST FOR A DISHWASHER. AND I REPLIED TO THE AD AND I WAS TOLD TO COME IN. ONCE I CAME IN AND I TOLD THIS LADY STANDING AT THE COUNTER THAT I WAS THERE FOR THE DISHWASHER POSITION AND SHE REPLIED ARE YOU NOW AND SHE IMMEDIATELY WALKED AWAY TO THE BACK. AND ANOTHER LADY CAME OUT AND TOLD ME THAT SHE THINK THE POSITION HAS ALREADY BEEN FILLED. SO I LEFT AND A WEEK PASSED BY AND I'M LOOKING ON CRAIGSLIST AGAIN FOR JOB OPENINGS AND I SAW THAT SHELLY'S CAFE HAD PLACED A NEW AD STILL LOOKING FOR A DISHWASHER. EVEN THOUGH I HAVE EXPERIENCE AS A DISHWASHER THAT DIDN'T MATTER TO THE MANAGER AT SHELLY'S CAFE. I WASN'T THE RIGHT RACE!!! SURE THEY WILL LET PEOPLE OF COLOR SPEND THEIR MONEY IN THEIR ESTABLISHMENT BUT THEY WON'T LET YOU WORK IN THEIR ESTABLISHMENT!!!! AND I HAVE READ SOME OF THE OTHER REVIEWS ABOUT SHELLY'S CAFE AND SOME OF THE REVIEWS ARE FROM OTHER PEOPLE OF COLOR THAT WENT TO SHELLY'S CAFE TO HAVE BREAKFAST AND THEY FELT UNCOMFORTABLE THE WHOLE TIME THEY WERE THERE BECAUSE OF HOW THE EMPLOYEES WERE LOOKED AT THEM. AND TOOK A LONG TIME FOR THEM TO GET WAITED EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE THERE BEFORE OTHER CUSTOMERS. IT'S A SHAME THAT SOME PEOPLE STILL CHOOSE TO BE PREJUDICE TOWARDS CERTAIN RACES OF PEOPLE! EVEN THOUGH IF SOMEONE WAS RACIST TOWARDS THEM THEY WOULDN'T LIKE IT!! THE REASON WHY RACISM WON'T END IS BECAUSE SOME PEOPLE WON'T STOP DISCRIMINATING AGAINST OTHER PEOPLE. AND WE ARE ALL GOD'S CHILDREN AND HE LOVES US ALL!! AND GOD IS AGAINST RACISM!!! SO IF YOU CLAIM YOU LOVE GOD AND SERVE HIM BUT HATE CERTAIN RACES OF PEOPLE. THAT MAKES YOU A LIAR!!! IF YOU HAVE ANY HOPE OF MAKING HEAVEN YOUR ETERNAL HOME YOU BETTER LEARN TO LOVE AND TREAT ALL PEOPLE THE SAME!!!! BECAUSE GOD IS ALWAYS WATCHING OUR TREATMENT OF OTHER PEOPLE AND EVERYTHING ELSE WE DO!!! NO I DID NOT GO TO THE WRONG RESTAURANT, I WENT TO SHELLY'S CAFE ON FLORIDA AVENUE!!! I KNOW VERY WELL WHERE I WENT!!! AND YOUR STAFF MAY BE DIVERSE BUT NO AFRICAN AMERICANS WORK THERE AND YOU MIGHT HAVE AFRICAN AMERICAN CUSTOMERS AS WELL AS OTHER RACES OF CUSTOMERS. BUT SEVERAL OTHER REVIEWS FROM AFRICAN AMERICANS SAY THAT THEY WERE BEING DISCRIMINATED AGAINST BY HOW UNFAIRLY THEY WERE TREATED WHILE PATRONIZING YOUR BUSINESS. I really wanted to like this place after seeing all of the praise online,but was left pretty disappointed. Im gonna break the review down in sections.

Atmosphere: The manager was incredibly frazzled and rude to the front staff and to me. She argued with her team about a time another party had a reservation for, when she found her own note proving she was wrong…she never apologized to them just brushed them off, insisting she was still right. Yikes.

The front staff was frazzled, because she set the tone for their crew. they seemed to walk on eggshells around her. I felt so bad for them. I hope the owner gets a better manager, because those girls don’t deserve to be talked to like that.

Service: Food was ready pretty fast. The waitresses were Amazing and sweet ! The cashier was short & frazzled gave off a bit of the manager’s vibe if I’m being honest.

When I asked if the bags on the counter were for Brittany? She snapped at me like she did her team “I didn’t take your order how would I know?!” And pushed past me in a huff. I had to move out of her way so she didn’t bump into me.

She did it a second time as I was leaving with the food in my hands and I almost fell into a table trying to get out of her way. Idk what her issue was. I know people have bad days,but good lord your in leadership act like it! No one was rude to her , she just gave off a bully vibes. Respectfully, She’s too emotionally immature to be a manager.

Food: I was hoping the food would be worth it, but it was was mediocre too. Small pancakes, very thin omelettes, sausage and bacon were room temp and and the eggs were like the eggs you get at Hardees…like the pre mixed eggs you buy in a carton. They put some the food on paper parchment to protect it from styrofoam and the other half directly on the styrofoam cartoons and it melted into our food! The pancakes were completely ruined and we didn’t know until we opened everything up.
