Big Lick Tropical Grill — Restaurant in Lynchburg

Big lick has great meals at an amazing price. The food is unique and the options are endless, truly. Everything I've tried from big lick throughout the years has been amazing. The best part is that all the standard meals are the same price and bonus your soda is included in the price of your entree haha. The staff are usually very polite and welcoming. This restaurant is also very good for larger family functions with accommodations including a separate room for a large group for parties, reunions, meetings. They also have an outside dining area situated on the beautiful wrap - around (3 sided) porch, which is nice for a mildly warm breezy day or when they have live music at night. The only downside is the parking situation which DOESN'T include a wrap-around parking lot which can put you in a 'tight spot', literally, in the case of a packed parking lot and a surprise dead end behind the building. Also the building is hard find if you don't know the area well. On 29 business N (the bypass), take the Odd Fellows Rd exit, take the immediate right beside the old motel LU owns now and the Emergency Vet Clinic, go down til you see Phase 2 venue center/dining, turn right down the rd immediately before Phase 2 (inbetween P2 and NTB (NATIONAL TIRES AND BRAKES) service center, go all the way down til you see Big Lick (not a long road at all). I have been a regular customer of Big Lick for over 15+ years. I even used to eat here at least 1x a week with my son since he was a baby and he’s now 13. Lately, the food isn’t as good as it once was and the service has definitely fallen off as well. There are still some of the servers who have been there a while who are a AMAZING like Kaitlyn (spelling?) however, I ate here today with my kids and my brother with his kids and the server was just a bit rude. I constantly said “thank you” and never got a “you’re welcome”. I think it’s really not appropriate when the waiter comes back to grab the signed check and reaching across me to grab plates before we can even get a second to stand up after paying. Then when I do stand up, he’s right behind me waiting for me to grab my son out the high chair to continue getting plates. I felt rushed out of here. The food has been mediocre lately and every-time we’ve eaten here the last few months, my entire family starts to feel sick almost immediately after. I’ve kept going back and ordering from here hoping it will be how it used to be and just feels like a waste of money at this point. We really loved this place and it’s sad to have seen it gone downhill...

The past two times we ate here it went pretty good, decent food, service, timing. However this past visit, was not so well. The only thing that made it worth three stars was the waiters response to try an make it better, the nachos we ordered where very bland, very little shredded cheese an hamburger, mostly chips, the steak my wife ordered had no flavor, I'm assuming it wasnt seasoned while on the flat top, the alligator bites where over cooked, it was just crunchy shell, the breading on the shrimp I ordered was over cooked, so hard an crunchy I had to break it off an eat the shrimp without the breading, me an my wife come from the food industry, both of us former managers of similar style places, I get it. Sometimes your short handed, sometimes your training new people who don't know how to properly prepare all the food correctly etc etc. The waitress had to get approval from the manage to discount the steak an take the alligator bites off, an not one time did the manger come an...
