HOLY CROISSANTS, BATMAN! Let me tell you about my serendipitous stumble into carb heaven at the Edmonds Farmers Market! There I was, minding my own business, when Community Bakery's stall beckoned to my inner Parisian (she's been sulking since that magical trip to France approximately 47,283 croissants ago).
Picture this: Me, standing there like a kid in a... well, bakery, eyeing this absolutely magnificent loaf of bread. Did they have a bread slicer? Non. Did that stop me? Also non! Sure, I knew I'd probably turn that beautiful loaf into a bread crime scene at home, but YOLO, right?
But wait, there's more! The real cherry on top (or should I say, the butter on the croissant?) was the crew of teenage staff members who were actually - gasp - HAPPY to be there! In Seattle, where the infamous 'Seattle Freeze' is so real it could probably preserve dinosaur DNA, finding friendly service is like finding a parking spot downtown - rare and worthy of celebration!
These kids were dropping knowledge about baked goods like they were the next generation of Great British Bake Off contestants. It was downright heartwarming, folks! Makes me want to rush to The Cottage before my great state exodus next year.
TL;DR: If you're tired of the Seattle Freeze, come thaw out with some warm bread and even warmer smiles at Community Bakery. Your taste buds will thank you, and your faith in human interaction might just get restored! P.S. To my mangled bread loaf: I regret nothing. You were delicious in all your...
Read moreCottage is the best. It’s hard to explain how exciting it was to realize we had a true local bread bakery that had opened up, and I have frequented the business a lot in the past year. The bread is excellent—the sourdough has great tang and texture (I love the apricot pecan one so much but plain and olive are also amazing!), the focaccia is soft and flavorful, the everything pretzel bagels are my favorite bread-y treat and the regular pretzels are fantastic, the brioche is perfect for toast, the challah is amazing on its own or as French toast, the baguettes are chewy but not too dense. As you can tell, I have pretty much tried it all and never been disappointed. The cookies, buns, and other treats are also delicious. I love their granola and always grab a bag when I run out! Besides all the bread being excellent, the service is wonderful - everyone is friendly and helpful. I love that they stock other local products, too. I recommend Cottage for all your fresh bread needs! It’s so much easier than doing it yourself (my own neglected sourdough starter can attest) and so delicious and well-priced. I hope Cottage is here for years to come because we desperately needed a true bread bakery...
Read moreI know sourdough is all the rage, but our family is French and we love a delicious baguette that isn’t from sourdough base. And this place HAS IT. We drive 40 min just to have it. It’s that good.
The first time we tried their baguette was at the Edmonds Farmers Market. My husband loves looking for the most french-y baguettes and pain au chocolats, and I remember we had already purchased another baguette from a different bakery. When we came to The Cottage’s stand, we bought a loaf of their baguette and it was so good, we devoured it entirely while at the market. The other baguette was forgotten.
Flash forward, we go to their shop to order our baguette when we have a second to drive out that way, and we also pick up their honey almond darlings… which are truly exquisite and to die for. They aren’t overly sweet and pair so deliciously with a cup of coffee.
The staff, which looks usually of young high school to college students, is remarkably friendly and are willing to be honest on how long breads and baked goods will last (and how to make it last as long as possible.)
We’ll continue to drive out of our way to patron this business. French guy stamp...
