Really sad about our experience tonight, I’ve been to Harvest Moon a million times and have never had any issues but after tonight I doubt I will be back. It was not a busy Friday evening at all. About 4-5 tables total, only two other parties when we left. One table actually left because of the lack of service. Multiple let downs. Took about a half hour to get our drinks after ordering. After finally getting to order entrees, everyone at our table got food except one of us. Waiter Matthew said it would be another 10 mins for the entree that was missing because it takes longer to cook rice noodles and asked if that was okay. I guess what choice do I have. Another 15 mins go by, everyone at the table was done with their meal and the meal is finally brought out with burnt salmon. When the burnt salmon was brought to the waiters attention he said “I would hardly consider that burnt”. I was appalled by his rude response. Salmon should be pink inside and it was white with a charcoal crust. I have a gluten and dairy intolerance and it was the only thing I could eat on the menu. The waiter and manager offered a 15% discount on the entree (which doesn’t even cover the additional cost of the salmon) or they said they could take the meal back. At this point I have waited over an hour and a half since we had gotten there to eat. I politely said no, I’m really hungry I want to eat something but I don’t think a 15% discount will suffice. The manager “called the owner, Nate” and said that he only offered 20% off the entree (which still doesn’t cover the cost of the salmon). It was suggested we come back into the restaurant tomorrow when the owner is present to discuss the issue. I have never been to a restaurant that had lack of ownership in fault. They messed up, acted rude and had no apology. I’ve never been told to “take it up with the owner” when it’s something that could have been fixed in the moment. We also had an infant with us and the infant seat strap was broken in the high chair. A few weeks back we had to use the same high chair but had an insert with our own strap. Tonight we didn’t have it so we asked for another and was told the other one was also broken. Waiter Matthew said “she’s fine in that one”. It takes one child to fall out of a broken high chair for a lawsuit but seems like fixing the chairs are not priority since it was the second time we used it. Overall really sad because we like Harvest Moon but the rude waiter and lack of acknowledgement of mistakes and mishandling is concerning and not...
Read moreI was visiting a friend who lives in Columbus after a long time. We were wandering around and saw this place in a small town. We decided to give it a try. As soon we entered, I smelled some freshly brewed coffee. I normally don’t drink coffee at night but this strong very refreshing smell was attracting me and I couldn’t stop myself but to order a cup for me. I took a sip to feel the taste to make sure it was as a good as it smelled. But I was just so amazed that the taste was as good as o was expecting if not better. Every sip I took I felt refreshed. I literally could feel the warmth and the mild bitterness of the freshly brewed strong coffee. Next we order some food with humus and bread as a starter. Bread was cold but I guess that’s how they serve it here because every bite was so delicious that I couldn’t stop myself from keep eating that starter dish, even though inside my head I was thinking if I don’t stop myself I won’t be hungry when the actual dish which was black bean burger that I ordered for me and fish&chips for my friend but still I only stopped when I finished it. I was almost full and now it was time for my main dish. The burger arrived and it look kind of dry and not very fun. I was not very excited to see the presentation of it. My desire to eat it felt more lower and top of that I was already kind of full by eating that starter dish. I took a first bite. Hmmmmm!!! It was little soft and little grilled like taste to it. Little bit of spices and salt I tasted when I was chewing it with my close eyes and then there it was!!! The subtle taste of black beans and the aroma of a beef burger patty. That’s just open my eyes wide open. I see my friend on the other side was having the same expressions. We couldn’t believe at first that a mom-n-pops small restaurant in a small town will have such greatness with the most delicious food.
I won’t stop writing about the greatness of this place and all the most welcoming staff. It will get too long but I hope you guys got the idea of what I am trying to say here is, THIS IS THE MOST AMAZING PLACE FOR MOST DELICIOUS FOOD WITH VERY PROFESSIONAL AND VERY POLITE STAFF. HIGHLY...
Read moreParty of five walks in. First table offered was already booked by seven black flies, and they looked pretty settled in, so we moved on. We chose a spot by the staff entrance/exit, thinking we’d be convenient. Instead, we accidentally picked the restaurant’s ‘semi-invisible’ table. Drinks and menus made it through, but after that we seemed to vanish into the background. It felt like our table had a glitch - four of us flickered in and out of visibility, while my pregnant wife somehow landed in the ‘I don’t care if you live or die’ seat.
She ordered the BBQ mac and cheese. Looked fine when it arrived, but the mac and cheese part was more like plain noodles that had once read a book about cheese but never tasted it. Oddly, the strongest flavor was Italian dressing (strange, but confirmed by three of the five of us), which last I checked isn’t part of any five-cheese blend. When we asked what cheeses were in it, the answer was simply: ‘a five cheese blend.’ Which is basically the restaurant version of, ‘Don’t worry about it.’
She didn’t eat it after a few polite attempts. And while the rest of us ate, finished, and had our plates cleared, she sat with nothing but water - until that ran dry. Only then did someone ask if she wanted a different dish. The solution? Knock 25% off her untouched entrée. Translation: pay 75% of the price for the privilege of not eating dinner. No extra water offered in the meantime.
The rest of the food was fine. Just not ‘watch one person at your table go hungry while sitting in the broken chair of indifference’ fine. Next time we’ll try a fully functional table - preferably one where all seats come with equal rights to food.
Disclaimer: Three stars might seem like a strange rating after a night like this, but I’m an optimist. Maybe this was just the one night where the flies got the good table, the mac forgot the cheese, and our server forgot my wife. Next time, who knows - maybe they’ll...
