Location: On the side of the building that is at the front of the large parking lot at 4100 Monona Drive. You'll see a rectangular sign without any text; the entrance is below that.
Ordered two double Hank Burgers, one order of cheese curds, an order of waffle fries and a root beer. They have two different kinds of root beer, but when I asked the difference, the cashier stated that he didn't know, but the more expensive one should be better.
Order of waffle fries was forgotten. I only noticed on the way back to my car because I was enthusiastic to try them, but couldn't find them. After I came back and asked about it, they replaced it with an apology, but they were busy, so I can sort of understand not double-checking the bags.
As far as the order placing process went, it's very confusing, as there's not enough room to determine who is in line to order and who is waiting for their food. Cashiers are kind of awkward, but still polite.
Wednesday and Friday are the only day for fish fry, Thursday and Saturdays are chicken sandwiches. My wife was wanting to get the fish fry, so was disappointed, as she stated that if the restaurant has the words "fish fry" in its name, it should have it every day, which I'm entitled to agree on.
Waffle fries were not crispy; they tasted like normal french fries, but perhaps that's a personal preference thing, so I give it a pass.
Cheese curds were actually really good. Temperature was fine, and tasted fresh. Really loved them.
The cheaper root beer was pretty good, but make sure you have a place to sit down before you order it, as it does require a bottle opener, plus you might have soda at home.
Now, the Double Hankburgers. The flavor was good, but the problem is that they are so messy! No napkins were included in my bag, so that didn't make it any better. Really liked the onions.
Seating is nonexistent; you're at the whims of whether the bar that it shares the building with has seating or not. Kind of unfortunate, because some people live pretty far away.
Overall, I think the food is okay. The fries and cheese curds aren't crispy, if you're into that sort of thing, but that doesn't make them bad. The burgers are messy, so make sure to ask for napkins.
Seating is a huge issue, so keep that in mind before you order.
Keep your receipt and check your bags just to make sure your food is all there.
Again, fish fry is only on Wednesdays and Fridays.
Wouldn't return myself due to the value vs price paid, but can understand the appeal of a local restaurant. I do wish them luck. With a few improvements, it could definitely be one of the greater local burger...
Read moreLet's start with the good: -Burgers were excellent, exactly what you want in a burger. Greasy perfection. -Cheese curds with ranch were awesome, would highly recommend. The curds had the proper coating (similar to the Old Fashioned) and the ranch is homemade and one of the highlights. -Service was great, they estimated the wait time down to the minute, which was pretty impressive. -They use compostable containers and silverware.
Less good: -Fish fry was good, very passable and enjoyable, but for $18 it felt like it wasn't quite worth it. The fries were underseasoned and pretty forgettable. -I'd skip the root beer shake if I had to do it over again, I just didn't prefer the ice cream they used. -The prices were a little high- $70 for 2 adults and a kiddo is steep, but I'm sure they use high quality ingredients and the small stuff like compostable containers adds up.
I really wanted to give this place a 5 as we are Sean Pharr fans, hoping with a few small adjustments I can change my rating. If/when we go again, I'd stick to a simple cheeseburger and cheese curds with ranch, that's...
Read moreUnfortunately I agree with others that that this is overpriced fast food. With no indication (that I noticed) of using premium ingredients or making the majority of their food from scratch, it’s hard for me to understand the high prices in comparison with restaurants with similar menus. Can’t say much about the service since at this point you need to order (we ordered online) and take the food elsewhere to eat. Though I will say that ordering online was easy and service was prompt (as we would expect from any fast food joint). The outdoor dining area also was thick with yellowjackets that were scavenging from people’s food and drinks.
Overall though, the food was definitely edible and due to having familiar menu items and a great location next to muskellounge I think (and hope) they will do fine. The interior of the restaurant also looks nice, so if the ambiance there adds to the experience in the future, that...
