Slices Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Madison

Good food, but pretty disappointed in the waitress. My husband and I stopped in for dinner and I at first actually told him to tip really good. The waitress had been pretty nice at first and I was appreciative of that due to the fact I am a waitress myself. I was appreciative of that UNTIL she became suspiciously friendly with my husband. Offered him a free refill on his cocktail… “on the house” … but when I wanted a refill she said she’d “throw it on the tab” … she ended up charging my husband for his refill anyways. I hadn’t been appreciative of the fact she decided to wink at my husband when he went up to ask for my refill either. Then… we go to pay our tab and this waitress said “ you forgot the tip… 8 or 9 dollars would be nice but because I was such a good waitress I should get 10.” First off, as a waitress, in WHAT WAY??? is it right to say “ you forgot the tip “ so… my husband tips what he thought was right as he had already expressed being uncomfortable with the woman’s demeanor towards him… leaving her $4.00. She proceeded to come over to us and say “oh, only four dollars? Is that all the money you have?” This was an absolute turn away for me. Then when she left she said “ well damn, should’ve brought more.” And proceeded to rub my husbands arm IN FRONT OF ME. I was absolutely disgusted and this made the experience unforgettable in a negative way. This happened on Saturday, May 24, 2025 around 10 pm… slices… maybe choose better,...

Had eaten here previously & was fantastic. Stopped this time for an order to go on our way home. Seriously? The grilled cheese was burned to smithereens. Why any cook would serve a sandwich that’s burned beyond recognition is beyond me. Probably cause they knew we wouldn’t open it until too Late! And we aren’t one of their ”locals,” though live in Madison. The dill pickle was awesome & potato salad. Sooo disappointed, was looking forward to the same tasty food we ate here previously. Live & learn, will never stop to get a to-go order again cause ya got me, burned us with the BLACKened, white bread & icky American cheese. At least could have used cheddar. I recently moved (back) to the east side and was looking for a place to get a burger and drinks on a Tuesday night. I'd never heard of this place before but figured I'd give it a shot. What. A. Gem.

Little did I know that the 2nd Tuesday of every month is Drag Bingo - the place was PACKED and everyone had a blast. I literally brought my wife back 2 days later to make the case for Slices to be in our regular bar rotation - she's sold.

The prices are almost comically low for the isthmus. Craft taps (decent selection) are $5 and the food is super reasonably priced. The burger meat is from Jenny Street Market and is A+ - one of the best bar burgers I've had in Madison.
