Steam Boys — Restaurant in Madison

Tried Steam boy's for the first time last night and it was terrific. We ordered way to much food but had wanted to try several things. We had the pork bag bun, the shrimp and pork dumplings, the soup dumplings ,and the Beef and noodle soup. It is very rare I find a restaurant that I truly enjoy everything I order, but oh boy did I love the food here. The dumplings had great texture and the fillings were savory and well seasoned . The same could be said of the bao bun as well. My personal favorite was the beef noodle soup I ordered mine at medium spice and it was perfect for my tastes. It reminded me of one of my favorite soups Bun bo hue but a little more beef flavor in the broth. The beef shanks were flavorful and melt in your mouth tender. My love for the chicken sandwich and chicken bites at this place is unwavering, and the baos are a solid B-plus. But there are two locations, and they are not created equal. The Cliff Farm spot is the undisputed champion, a culinary paradise. My local location, on the other hand, is a different story. It’s a whole different sensory experience. Instead of being greeted by the delicious aroma of crispy chicken and savory spices, you're hit with a chemical ambush from the nail salon next door. It's a scent so powerful, it could probably strip the paint off a car. It's a crying shame because the food is still fantastic, but trying to enjoy a meal there feels like eating in a chemistry lab. It's so bad, I'd rather make the drive out to the Cliff Farm location, even though the Madison one is only five minutes from my house. Steam Boys is definitely one of its kind in the area. I ordered the seared pork bao and a honeydew fruit tea. I really liked the flavor of the bao, and I especially liked how the chilli oil was actually spicy. However, my bao was literally leaking oil, and I felt like my bao was not made properly. The bao bun was very thin, and the inside was just a ball of pork instead of like an actual filling. I feel like for the items are definitely overpriced for what they are.
