As this review is negative, I encourage you to read it with an open mind. I'm sure that my experience is not typical, but it is enough to keep me from visiting Nagoya again.
Interior design: 4/5 stars. One wall houses a beautifully-illuminated waterfall, and the feel of the restaurant is very relaxed. The decor of the restaurant is really quite nice, but that is where my praise ends.
Price: 2/5 stars. Sadly, almost everything on the menu can be found cheaper at other Japanese restaurants in the area. If the quality here were superb, this would be completely justified. However...
Quality of food: 1/5. My most recent visit included my least favorite eel avocado roll in Bergen County, an average-tasting spicy tuna roll, and a disappointingly-small shrimp tempura roll. The sushi isn't horrible; it just doesn't stand up to other restaurants in the area. The chicken katsu on the other hand could not even be chewed through, and had to be left on the plate. As a long-time chicken katsu fan, this was a pretty big disappointment. I generally prefer my food chewable.
Service: 1/5 stars. By comparison to other local Japanese restaurants, the service left much to be desired in both of my last two visits. Incorrect food orders, a waitress who wouldn't bring me the soup and salad that I was owed (according to the menu, at least) and just a general attitude of apathy. Not unfriendly, but far from friendly.
I'm actually bummed out that this restaurant isn't great, because it's in my hometown. Heck, if there were no other Japanese restaurants within a 15-minute driving distance, I might eat here all the time and take my chances. But the fact is there are too many alternatives which deliver better quality and service for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBeen here many times over a bunch of years with my sister and brother-in-law (when visiting them). They themselves come a couple times a week. They love the food and staff. It's funny. Pretty much everytime I visit (when it's not some holiday like Easter or Christmas) we wind up at the restaurant. The food is very good and the owner and wait staff are knowledgeable and extremely friendly. New ownership has carried on the great food and service. Being on a keto diet, I've found that I can order tasty sashimi of very high quality and delicious Tuna Tar Tar without the crunchy (carb containing) part. In fact, the kitchen is pretty accommodating when they can be with customized orders. Before being on keto, I often ordered sashimi, sushi, seaweed salad, nebayaki udon, maki rolls. Large number of a la carte items are on the menu. The various saki that my brother-in-law ordered over the years have never disappointed me. The restaurant seems popular with the locals. I say this because it is inconspicuously located in a strip mall on a road (MacArthur Blvd) that's lined with corporate buildings on both sides. Someone just driving casually by would probably not notice it. I see a lot of families patronizing the place. Prices are quite reasonable given the quantity and quality of the food. I, my sister, and my brother-in-law highly...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI'm so thankful to live 5 mins away from a restaurant that I love as much as I love Nagoya š it's a perfect place to go for any occasion, I've been on first dates, celebration dinners, catching up w friends, and even alone. The decor (very beautiful, traditional, and relaxing) the furnishings, cleanliness and lighting all coalesce into a really nice atmosphere. There's a super gorgeous fountain with Koi fish. As for the food, in all of the years I've been going there, there hasn't been a single "off" day in relation to quality or taste, bolstered by the fact that nearly every dish is delicious in the first place. Sashimi and seafood always incredibly fresh and is clearly high-grade, the staff is friendly and really proactive, in the sense that they won't even let you finish all your water before they come to refill it for you. Also, Nagoya's miso soup? SLAPS. My single and only complaint about Nagoya is that their meals tend to be on the more expensive side, as in, a couple going for dinner could reasonably expect to spend $40+. But, the higher prices are made up for by by great service & staff, authenticity, quality of ingredients, experience and consistency.
so yes, i would absolutely recommend patronizing...
