Sangria's is a place that became a happy surprise for my dining partner and I! Definitely busy, so call ahead. As far as the ambiance it was busy and loud, but we were nestled into a corner and for the most part able to enjoy or own conversation. There was an olive selection and Spanish type bruscetta topped toast that was delivered immediately with our drinks. We ordered a charcuterie board to start. It was perfectly designed boasting a delectable assortment of meats. Hard sausage sliced thin, accompanied by, lomo (pork loin), and another lean smoked meat. They were paired with creamy goat cheese slices and a semi hard manchego. The apricot mustarda and apple paste added a little sweetness when spread onto either of the cheese selections. Some smoked truffle almonds topped it off and the bread was grilled just right making this charcuterie board a top 5 in my book! Next we indulged in the Montaditos churrasco. There were 4 grilled bread slices covered in carmalized onions, Manchego cheese, and melt in your mouth cooked skirt steak that I would have thought was figlet mignon had the menu not said different. My entree choice was the Paella Mixta. It contained clams, mussels, shrimp, calamari, chicken and chorizo all plated on an enormous bed of saffron rice. This Paella was more then a generous portion and could have easily fed two!! The clams, shrimp, and chicken all tasted as they should just like the chorizo did. It didn't become a giant blend of unidentifiable ingredients like some overcooked paellas do. Our meal finished with an espresso and dessert. We chose the churros, that came out pipping hot with a crispy outside and pillow soft center. They were covered in the classic churro cinnamon sugar and had a hot chocolate dipping sauce with some fresh whipped cream. We also ordered the homemade lemon sorbet which contained lemon zest bits and was so refreshing, a perfect palette cleanser to finalize what I would classify as an amazing meal! I can easily say this is a must visit spot and I will for...
Read moreWent for the first time with my girlfriend for Valentine's Day dinner. Reservation was for two and was super easy to get a few days ahead of time on Yelp.
We ordered the Croquetas de Jamón, Patatas Bravas, Churrasquito, and Calamares Frito, along with a Sangria Flight and later a Sangria Glass (white peach). The total for our order was 81 before tax and tip. The serving sizes were large, and we ended up taking half the Croquetas, Patatas Bravas, and a third of the Calamares frito home (we ate as part of lunch the next day: they reheated in the oven just fine).
Of the four Tapas we ordered, the Churrasquito was definitely our favorite. The taste and texture were both perfect and the serving size was great. My girlfriend preferred the Calamares Frito more while I preferred the Croquetas, and we both really liked the Patatas Bravas. The aioli sauce that came with a lot of the food was pretty good too.
The Sangria Flight and white peach Sangria were great. This was my girlfriend and I's first time trying Sangria and the flight was a great way to sample different flavors. We both fell in love with the white peach sangria and decided to order a glass to share.
The service was perfect: the waiters were friendly, attentive, and helpful with questions, and the food arrived quickly. There is restroom access and we were provided with plenty of water, along with metal utensils wrapped in a large black napkin. The Tapas were served in small plates and we ate straight from them but we were also given our own empty plates.
The ambiance was also really nice. There's a bar with TVs playing sports for those interested in a quicker, more casual experience. We were seated at a table along the wall opposite the bar. The vibe of the restaurant was very pleasant and I am very happy with my choice for a romantic Valentine's Day dinner.
I will definitely be returning again in the future to try more Tapas and have more amazing...
Read moreI can not recommend Sangria's. This place underwhelmed across the board. First was the decor. The strip mall location and neon sign in the window don't bode well. We went on a Saturday night at 7PM and it was very crowded and noisy inside. The tables were quite close to one another so when a woman got up to talk with her friend, her butt was practically in the face of my friend! Every time someone came in or out the cold air from outside rushed inside which was uncomfortable. Second was the service. Very poor and uncaring waitstaff. It took a long time to get our order placed and our waiter offered no information about what the house specialties were or what they would recommend. The wait between contact was very long. The owner/hostess came to our table - not to apologize for the hour long wait for our meals but to ask us why we were still sitting there. so she could turn over the table faster The food was ok, but certainly no bargain at the price point. My wife and I shared two tapas plates and the churrasco steak platter. The tapas were the chicken empanadas and the shrimp with avocado. The empanadas were quite good. Nice and warm and flaky outside, and tasty chicken inside. The dipping sauce was a little bland. The shrimp was served cold and was flavorless. The churrasco dish was a disappointment. It came out luke warm/cold, the meat was not charred properly on the outside and was cooked rare instead of medium as requested. The meal was served with fried potatoes and brussel sprouts. Both were flavorless and bland. We did not stay for dessert or coffee and do not plan to return. Segovia's in Oakland or Grenada in Hawthorne are far better places for Spanish cuisine. So rude service, noisy un-inviting atmosphere, relatively high prices for the quality of the food, and a poorly managed restaurant add up to a...
