Brunch city Café review !!
So this past week when it was snowy, my husband and I wanted to go somewhere close for breakfast so after all the good things we’ve heard about brunch city Café we decided to stop by.
Upon walking in the restaurant, it was immediately noted how clean and good it smelled in there. When I mean “clean”, I mean, white glove clean. This place was immaculate The host at the front was very friendly and gave us our choice of seating. We chose to sit somewhere in the back of the restaurant because the front was pretty filled up and she accommodated that request with no problem .
As soon as we sat down our waiter, Javi (Javier) came to the table and asked us what we would like to drink if he could get some coffee going for us. We took a look through the menu and the drink specials and decided on a yogurt parfait, breakfast with eggs, bacon and potatoes and a “South of the border” skillet . Javi brought the coffee out, also brought us some water and our food came out within 15 minutes . I gotta be honest, I’m a coffee drinker so I definitely will go through a couple cups during breakfast and I can honestly say my cup never reached even halfway before somebody came around and offered to fill it up for me . I was actually very impressed by this because at most restaurants the servers only take care of their sections, but it’s very clear that the servers here pride themselves on teamwork and just want to please the guests . Now, the deets on the food. This was probably the best parfait I have had in a really long time. It was unsweetened unflavored Greek yogurt topped with freshly sliced strawberries, blackberries blueberries with the perfect amount of granola sprinkled on top and a drizzle of honey that gave it just that little kick of sweetness that I needed. It was the perfect size. It was absolutely delicious. The potatoes that came with my meal were light and airy. They were not drenched in oil, which is also common at other restaurants. You could tell that the potato’s were baked fresh. The eggs were cooked to perfection, and the bacon was delicious as well my husband very much enjoyed his skillet And that means a lot knowing he was a chef for over a decade. I also got a throw it in there, because I was born in Vermont, they do offer real maple syrup here from Vermont Farms . I also wanted to comment again on how amazing the service and teamwork was here because as soon as we were finished with one plate and set the fork or utensil down on it, it was cleared from the table from somebody not necessarily our server, but anybody that saw the plate there they would gladly remove it for us . We asked for the check and then after we were done paying our server came with the cherry on top……He asked if I’d like a cup of coffee to go as well !!!
I am so glad that I listen to all the good things that I’ve heard about this restaurant because as you all know, we’ve seen many restaurants come and go in Des Plaines, but I really hope that this restaurant is here to stay because I was highly impressed and now craving another yogurt parfait days later . Go here!!!!! You will enjoy it and want to come...
Read moreI don't know who is posting these fake reviews, or maybe they are just lucky but I was there, and it was terrible. First off the menu is weird... pancake tacos.?? And expensive. Other than that, we ordered our food. It took a long time to get a breakfast meal....other places I've been., it takes about maybe 10 minutes at max. There was no one in there when we were there, we were 1 of 4 tables, which was a total of 8 to 10 people... The food came out. My meal was ok temp wise....but My mother's meal was completely cold. The pancakes were cold to the touch and didn't even melt Butter... already softened, not even cold butter... Her omelet was also cold as well as her potatoes. My friend's food was lukewarm.... The waiter never came back to the table. So we had to flag down someone to get help, and then they proceeded to say they would remake the food. Well, they remade the omelette part of my mother's food, but they didn't remake the potatoes and they were still cold, and when the omelet came back out, it was raw in the middle. The egg wasn't even cooked, and then the waitress tried to tell us that that was cheese....um...no... At this point, my mother no longer want to eat anything from here, so we just said take it off the bill. They tried to insist on making us something else and we kept telling them we didn't want anything else. We just wanted that meal taken off the bill....
I did not eat my food... It was very blah, the pancakes were nothing had no flavor and the potatoes. We're just fried potatoes. It was nothing to them, it was just plain...no flavor at all. I just sat there because I felt bad for my mother, who had no food. My friend ate a little bit of her food and then regretted not getting her food redone, because it was cold. Anyway, we get the bill and they took off everything (which we did not ask for)... Then they kept trying to insist that they wanted to give us something else...and we kept saying we didn't want anything else and then the manager or somebody came over and tried to get us again to order something else and we kept saying we didn't want anything else.. Then explained that the reason the food was cold was because one of the heat lamp light bulbs wasn't turned on and my thought on that was why would food be sitting under a heat lamp when there's literally no one else in there and at least 5 waiters... if your chefs can not time 3 meals to come out at the same time, that's a big problem that has nothing to do with a heat lamp.
It seems to me like if they were doing anything and everything to try to not get a bad review.
I decided to give this place a try, because the reviews were good....people should be honest so others do not waste their time and money. With all of the other breakfast places around, I don't see this place lasting long, but hopefully they fix their...
Read moreThe best thing about this place is the atmosphere. The decoration and set up is so cute and aesthetic! However, the food my 6 friends and I had were mediocre at best. I had the chicken and waffles and would have been better off going to iHop. The chicken was kinda skimpy and skinny lacking flavor, but they did seem fresh. The waffles themselves were good from the outside but when biting into them it tasted raw and more cooking time needed. The caramel iced latte I asked for lacked caramel and espresso flavor ($.50 charge for the caramel). My friend had the barbacoa Benedicts and said it wasn’t that good and would have preferred going somewhere else— that it tasted funky and not like your typical barbacoa. My friends brother had chocolate pancakes and you can’t go wrong with those, he was happy with them. My other friends had omelets and said the potato’s that came with them were hard and some of them were super soggy, but the fig jam was SUPER tasty (the sweet and savory omelette). Not to mention my friends white toast came with a hair 😍 but the server acted quick to get her new toast. Speaking of the server, I think his name was Javier, he was an alright server but was lacking charisma and that might be due to him kind of being new at attending customers or something (not sure) but if I could make a suggestion, be a little more charismatic. My other friend had the berry crepes and said they were alright and my friend with the oatmeal said it was your regular oatmeal nothing special but it did lack some flavor. For how much everything was and for how it tasted, it was okay and I would not return. If I could suggest, the music they played was very off from their demographic. We are young adults and would have enjoyed more up to date pop songs than the old songs that aren’t even that good. Their demographic (as any other breakfast/brunch place) were older people (grandparents maybe) and they could cater their music taste to their generation, a mix of both new and old-old music for a better experience. I wouldn’t recommend you give it a try, but if you’d like then check it out since it is a new opened spot, but you’re definitely better off going somewhere else...
