So. It's been quite awhile since my family and I have been to Anthony's in Malvern. I have to say that the more they renovate the worse the restaurant becomes. We took my dad there for his 76th birthday. There were 7 of us altogether. My wife kids and grandson arrived first at 5:15. It was not crowded-there were many tables available for seating. The hostess informed my wife that we could not be seated at a table until all of our guests were in the restaurant. We were a bit confused by this since we had never experienced this before at Anthony's or anywhere else. I told the hostess that my father was a minute out-nonetheless, we could not sit at a table until he arrived. Which was baffling due to the fact that there were at least 10 tables open and no wait. The funny thing is we did not ask to sit down-we were informed that we would not be seated until all guests had arrived. When we spoke to the owner after we bein seated-upon the arrival of our one missing guest-he informed us that this has always been the policy and the main reason is to keep the wait staff from having to come back to the table and explain the specials a second time to the late arrivals or have to take a second drink order. Honestly if my server can't take the time to do that-I will not be able to take the time to figure out what 20% is! After this baffling exchange no specials were explained, we were instructed they were written on the first page of the menu. Which is fine by me if I don't know what something is I'll ask. Now I would have been willing to let all this nonsense slide-we don't get a chance to dine out often-but-and this is the truly disappointing part to all of this. The food was not good. At all. In the past, before the place was remodeled-and they added a bar etc etc the food was magnificent. Our service at this visit was excellent minus the bumpy start but somewhere along the path of expansion and remodeling-the quality and quantity of food has been forgotten. It wasn't just myself who thought this either. There were 7 of us and 5 of our clan were not impressed with the food. Enough so that this will be our last trip to Anthony's of Malvern. It wasn't so much about the whole seating "policy". The facts are -we go out to eat on special occasions. Birthdays, anniversaries, we work hard so we deserve a night out, those types of occasions. I/we want to enjoy the food we order to celebrate those occasions. I ordered the raviolis with two meatballs topped with their pink sauce. The raviolis were overcooked, the meatballs tasted as if they were 1/2 bread crumbs and the pink sauce was bland and unsatisfying. We make the Irish version of pink sauce at home by combining 1/2 jar of Alfredo with a 1/2 jar of marinara. It's not great but it is certainly tastier than what I was served last night. As my wife and kids tell me I've lectured too long! Save yourself the hassle and trade in the Anthony's of Malvern for the Anthony's if Downingtown. In a society that puts so much emphasis on the outside beauty of things, the old adage is true. Beauty is only skin deep. Anthony's of Malvern may look spectacular, something on the inside needs mending. To put it nicely. I've only eaten at Olive Garden once or twice for a reason. It's not truly authentic Italian food. I would spend my money and eat there before sitting-not before all my companions arrive mind you- before dining at Anthony's again. They should be done with the seating policy as well as start a remodel on the quality of the food. As I stated in the beginning of this rant-we've eaten there for decades. We will visit the other Anthony's (Downingtown) when it's time to celebrate Italian style time. In the owner's defense-he did give my father a free piece of tiramisu for his birthday-even though he was...
Read moreWe just came back from this restaurant with an horrible dine in experience. We came to this restaurant for a dinner. Arrived there at 8PM ESt and all went initially. We were given a table and the waitress came to the table after few minutes to take the order for drinks and appetizers. After few minutes she came back asking for the order for main course where we asked for few more minutes. Then we placed the main course order, which was nothing but a vegetarian pizza. After 15 mins the waitress came to let us know the Pizza is getting ready and should be there any time. From here , the waitress disappeared while we waited for the food. time passed , we asked other waiters with not much movement , finally our waitress came and trying to inquire whether the food is there or not. By this almost 30 mins passed. She went inside to inquire about and came back to let us know that our order has been served to some other table and the chef is preparing another pizza which may take another 5 to 10 mins and she also asked if that can be served or packed for delivery , we asked her to serve it on the table. then the wait game again continued for 15 more mins and she came back to tell us similar stories like our food was given to a "take away" order . This was frustrating by now , she again repeated the same thing , whether we can wait or she can pack the order which will take another 15 mins. By now it is really frustrating to wait more time , I asked them to cancel the order and it seems she was pretty happy with our response. Immediately she came back with the check to pay and leave.
From this kind of experience , where we neither got the food nor got any good response from the waiter (she just mentioned , it is not under her control, not sue why she is allowed to attend a table if she can not manage it) or restaurant staff , my suggestion , please do not plan for a pleasant dinner if you are going with your family to spend some time there, it might ruin your plan.
My guess- They also have a take away counter where they just deliver and they don't have proper management to manage dine in and take away orders ,...
Read moreI’ve come to this Anthony’s multiple times. Each time has been enjoyable, but this time was the absolute worst! First off, the pasta was slightly undercooked, which wasn’t even the bad part. Our waitress was not very attentive and spent a lot of time tending to other tables. The check took about 20 minutes to come. Our table asked for more bread and that didn’t come until we were all done with our meals.
Being a college student, I have very limited cash on me. I had just enough to cover my bill, but not enough to leave a tip myself (My friends tipped about $7.) As I was walking out with my friends, the waitress came outside and confronted me in the parking lot.
The conversation went like this: Waitress: “Excuse me? Was there something wrong with your service?” Me: “oh no I’m sorry. I don’t have any more cash on me.” Waitress: “well it’s just that people usually tip” proceeds to rolls eyes
Not only was that extremely unprofessional, but also completely unnecessary. To confront a customer like that OUTSIDE of the restaurant was outrageous. The waitress then proceeded to go inside to the host, complaining. This restaurant not only lost one customer, but my friends included in this experience as well.
Edit: while I understand that it is extremely unfair how waiters/waitresses get paid, do realize it was only a couple dollars. I would understand if my bill was $50+ and not leaving a tip, but to confront someone over $3 seems a little obnoxious to me. My friends left $7 in a tip for the waitress and only had $20’s on them, otherwise they would have lent me the cash. I understand your care and concern for your employees and I am sorry that I did not have enough money to tip. While I think it was admirable for your employee to stick up for herself, I also did not appreciate being confronted in the parking lot in front of the...
