After trying every chinese food restaurant in Toms River and discovering none are consistently good, I've been trying spots outside the township. Brick township was a letdown too, with the sole exception of Lo's Garden, but getting there during primetime is a mess of traffic because the township REFUSES to make this major route a 4 lane street. So looking West I tried Manchester's Hot Wok restaurant. I kept it simple for my first visit and the food was great; fried rice and sweet and sour chicken. I tried again expanding to enjoy chicken and broccoli and again enjoyed the mean. Next I ordered for the whole family. Everything everyone got was delicious and made to order. The extra-fried dumplings were exactly that. The extra spicy hot and sour soup was exactly that. Every dish was perfect and ready for pickup. 4 meals, fried dumplings and an eggroll came out to just over $50. One in my party cannot eat beansprouts, and when I asked them to leave those out they explained they don't use beansprouts at all in their restaurant. So that worked out perfect too. Atmosphere doesn't really apply here, it's not really a dine in location. Service and food were both good! I haven't tried but more than a third of the menu so I'll hold off on calling it a 5 star place. That said, for now, this is my go to place unless and until someone opens a quality chinese food restaurant...
Read moreThis is the closest Chinese takeout to me, but not the best without a 2 mile range. That goes to GREAT WOK in Lakehurst on route 70: their food is much better and there’s dining-in where Hot Wok has one table, set up and used mostly by people waiting For their food.
The food is average, but mostly taste American authentic. Good soups, and very good ribs. Pork fried rice is a little light in color. I like it served much darker than what I got.
They tend to serve crunchy veggies, so that by time you get home, it will be steamed a little softer, and perfectly al dente.
So don’t bring your family here, unless you plan to leave them in the car. But it’s a decent takeout place and it’s somewhat centrally located. Traffic parking can be difficult during the daytime. Evening hours Shops near are closed and parking is easy to find.
Again, GREAT WOK in Lakehurst much better, but if a mile and a half away means something to you, then this will work out...
Read moreIf I could give a minus negative star for the experience and quality of food ordered. But unfortunately I have to give a 1. I ordered two combo dinners and only got 1 egg roll, I asked for crunchy noodles didn't get any. I'm not sure where 1/2 a pint of rice came from all of the sudden. You used to get a FULL pint of rice with a dinner meal. And all of the packets of sauce have been shrink-flationed. Chicken chow main combo was loaded with yellow rice not even fried and had frozen peas and carrots with one small peice of pork in the rice. Small amount of chow mein on top of the rice. If I wanted frozen peas and carrots in my rice I would make a beef stew. This restaurant has gotten worse it's...
