2/5 stars I called earlier this evening and a seemingly nice woman answered the phone. I proceeded to ask her if she could please tell me what flavors of Downeast Cider they have in stock. This was my first and only mistake. Immediately I was being verbally berated about how I’m the insert high number something client that has called today asking this question. The woman’s first words to me were “ALRIGHT IM GOING TO TELL YOU WHAT I AM TELLING EVERY SINGLE OTHER PERSON WHO HAS CALLED ME TODAY.” I thought I was being punk’d. All I had done was asked for the flavors in stock, didn’t think it was a big deal….apparently I had crossed some sort of line. She continues on, voice still raised, and I had to put the phone on speaker phone so my friend could hear what was going on because I knew nobody would believe what I was hearing. The woman is still yelling, telling me “all I had to do was check the social media, that they are very active on there if I had only bothered to check” this continues on and I cannot get a word in. There is no end in sight to the yelling. “I DONT KNOW WHAT WE WILL BE GETTING FOR SHIPMENTS THIS WEEK. I DONT KNOW UNTIL I MAKE THE ORDER MYSELF. I DO THIS ON MONDAYS SO HOW ABOUT TRY CALLING BACK ON THURSDAY OR FRIDAY” I’m absolutely shocked, don’t know how I am still being yelled at 3 minutes in for my simple question. I cut her off finally - “I was just wondering what flavors are in stock right now….” She calms down significantly, starts to list of the 3-4 flavors in stock, while cursing in between and asking me what she had just told me. I said thank you and have a nice day and the phone call ended abruptly. I have always liked Berts and counted on them for my craft beer needs. The man who works here has always been kind and immensely helpful. However after this borderline scary phone call experience, I cannot assure that I will be going...
Read moreFirst, it must be stated that the staff are incredibly friendly and knowledgable, so kudos on that. Unfortunately, everything else about shopping here is awful. The shop is chaos in terms of how it is laid out. There does not appear to be rhyme or reason to how it's organized (best I could determine is dark beers in back, kind of?). There were cases of beer strewn in front of cooler cases (I'll chalk this up to maybe they just got a shipment and are in the middle of putting it away but it was like this the last time I was here as well). The most frustrating part is that nothing is priced and it is a mystery until you get to the checkout what you're actually spending.
The last time I shopped here prior to today was a couple days after they moved in to the new location. It was a mess then, but I figured I'd give them a few months to get things together and try again. It's been almost a year and it's still almost exactly as bad. I would recommend checking out The Packie if you are in the Manchester area, it is a great example of how a beer store...
Read moreThey do have a wide selection, similar to other craft beer stores in the area, but the prices are outrageously high! First of all, I am a big supporter of local businesses and happily pay a few dollars more at craft beer stores than I would at a grocery store. I was in a rush and stopped in here instead of one of the other independent beer stores I typically go to in Concord. Looking back, the fact that there were no prices listed anywhere should have given me pause. I bought 2, 4-packs: a NEIPA that I buy often and usually pay $16-18 for, and a low-abv radler which typically go for $10-12 at most. The total was $40!!! Again, I would never compare their prices to a grocery store, but they are 30-40% higher than other independent craft beer stores. Being in a rush, I paid an extra $10+ for the convenience, but anyone who thinks these prices are reasonable really needs to check out some other independent craft beer stores. I promise you that Bert's is an outlier; craft beer is not...
