Henry’s Take, Takes L.A.! Part 2
“Well I’m not the kind to live in the past. The years run too short and the days too fast. Time passages.” Al Stewart
I think that Al was right about that. There’s no way to slow, much less stop, the passage of time. Perhaps the best we can do is enjoy the meandering path of life that we’ve been set upon.
While here in L.A. for a graduation, the proud grad dad suggested that we eat at Simmzy’s because he recalled eating there around the time he attended UCLA. His daughter is graduating from USC (hey, the next gen has gotta blaze their own path people!) and the symmetry seemed irresistible.
We began with the “15 Minute (But Worth the Wait) Wings” (actual name) and they really did take about that long to arrive at the table. The appeal of their presentation was undeniable and our table obliterated them.
While the majority of our Review Team ordered salad bowls (which also offered great presentation and were also wiped out), I felt drawn to the “We’re Open Sunday’s Fried Chicken Sandwich” (actual name). It was marinated in buttermilk and Cholula and offered excellent flavors and crispiness.
While we ordered too many things to review each meal, the proud grad dad strongly recommends that you consider the “Chicken Tinga Tacos” and “Blackened Local Rock Tacos.” Those dishes are appealing by their names alone, but it is the tortillas that really put them over the top for him. He described them as featuring a “crispy and heavy dough” that were filling enough to require only 2 of them to fully satisfy him.
While proud dad grad was busy perseverating on the great tacos, the proud grad herself was busy vibing to the music which she described as “clubby.” While they may have had different foci at the restaurant, they are clearly bound by a love and friendship that bridges their generational differences.
And there you have it. While Al was right that time does inexplicably move on, family and good food can be faithful companions that move on a simultaneous and parallel path alongside you.
Cheers to our grad who worked so hard for this accomplishment and to all the other worthy and deserving grads out there! 🥂
And that’s…Henry’s...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Simmzy's in Manhattan Beach and I must say, it was an incredible experience from start to finish. Despite the initial wait time, the overall dining experience exceeded all expectations.
Upon arrival, we were informed of a 45-minute wait, which was understandable given the bustling Saturday afternoon crowd. However, our patience was rewarded tenfold. The entire staff, from the welcoming hostess to our exceptional waiter, made us feel right at home.
As a party of four, we unanimously decided to indulge in Simmzy's renowned burgers. And let me tell you, they were absolutely worth the hype. I opted for the Simmzy's burger with bacon and cheddar cheese, and it was a flavor explosion. The patty cooked to perfection, nestled on a toasted bun, created a mouthwatering combination that vanished within moments. Each bite was pure satisfaction.
Our meals were consistently outstanding, and the entire party thoroughly enjoyed their choices. It's safe to say that we'll be returning to Simmzy's without hesitation. The restaurant's perpetual buzz is a testament to its culinary prowess. Be prepared for a wait, but trust me, it's well worth it.
When it comes to parking, it can be a bit challenging in the area, especially on weekends. However, I recommend saving yourself the trouble by finding a parking lot a few blocks away. Embrace the opportunity for a pleasant stroll through this charming beach city, adding to the overall experience.
In conclusion, Simmzy's in Manhattan Beach is an absolute gem for burger enthusiasts and food lovers alike. The friendly staff, delicious meals, and bustling atmosphere combine to create an unforgettable dining experience. Make sure to plan ahead, arrive with an appetite, and savor every moment at this delightful...
Read moreMy husband and I went to this burger spot at night for dinner. The food was really good, but the customer service was awful.
We were seated quickly, got our menus, and placed our order. Another customer sat next to us shortly after and ordered his food, but he received his drink and fries before we even got anything. Then our order came out wrong. A little later, that same customer got his full meal — and they even gave him another order of fries to make up for their delay — while we were still waiting.
When our correct food finally came, we ate and enjoyed it, but once we finished, it was a struggle to get our server’s attention. She kept avoiding eye contact and wouldn’t turn around. My husband eventually got her attention, but she just walked away. The manager was nearby, chatting with other customers, so my husband asked him for the check. He nodded but went straight back to his conversation without saying anything to our server.
We finally asked another server for the check and a to-go box, and that’s when our server and the manager finally responded. When our server came over, she actually charged the guy next to us first even though we were ready to pay, then came to us — and still asked for a tip after all that.
The food deserves credit because it really was good, but the service completely ruined...
