This is my second time being disappointed. For starters the girl who sat us was unhappy I asked to sit away from the loud band. We had 4 different women "helping us" throughout our stay. One took our order, another delivered food, then another came asked if it was good before we could take a bite but when we did eat a majority of the food was cold after being brought out fairly quickly. We were given several cues from all of the staff that made us feel unnecesarily rushed and unwelcome the entire time despite arriving an hour and a half before ths listed closing time on a satuday night. Dishes were hastily taken from us no less than five seconds of finishing my last bite, as if I was being watched like a hawk. After onw of the women asked if we wanted to-go boxes, my partner caught her making rude gestures to another staff nearby. (hopefully the food we ordered then had our plates nabbed from before we could finish are better reheated at home). But once their chores were all done our four "helpers" all disappeared. We waited 15 minutes and didn't see a check so we went to the front counter, 2 girls were flirting with the bar tender while the other one was having her own dinner at the register. This is still 15 minutes before listed closing time and there are still several other groups at tables in the other areas. I get it, it's late they wanna leave as soon as they can, at this point so did we. When they finally pulled up our bill it was just an option to swipe my card. No actual itemized bill so idk if it was even correct. I paid cash so I could leave and gave my honest opinion, poor girl didn't know how to respond. There was no "what could I do to remedy this issue " or anything, just a "oh sorry"
I will say that the point of me going there was to get a burger, thankfully that did not disappoint. They were out of regular fries and the waffle fries (upgraded charge) and 'house ranch' were nothing special. So yeah, I gave this place a second chance ( in my first visit our table was forgotten for over a half hour ) so I do not think I will be recommending this place if your looking for decent service or hot food. Best of luck to the 4 girls taking more care of their side work rather then the one table of 2 on a fairly quiet...
Read moreDecent beer. Good pretzels. Wait staff wasn't helpful. My girlfriend and I were here for almost an hour and a half and we were only asked for refills once. I'm not a high maintenance guy, but it was a very weird and confusing dynamic in the business. The decor is on point, but they have, for example, yard games set up throughout the bar. There were no tables available when we went, so we were seated at a wooden barrel (yes, a wooden barrel) right next to a cornhole game. Which, by the way, was in the line of fire for people going in and out of the bathrooms. Another horrible idea is the giant Jenga they have set up, so every ten minutes there's a shotgun-blast of wooden blocks falling on the ground.
Most importantly though (to me) is the drinks. The beer selection is quite good, albeit expensive, but that's to be expected. If you've ever been to Fenton river grill, it's very similar, with the menus on the TV's. Cool idea, unless you're half blind like me and have to sprint through a game of cornhole and dodge the falling Jenga blocks to read the beer menu. The pretzel we got was also quite good and, I will say, only took about 20min to get. It was priced fairly.
Maybe the experience was less than stellar due to the fact it was a Saturday night, and it's a new business, but it's a solid two stars for me. I'm hoping they iron out some issues, and this can be a great classier bar for Mansfield. Until then, we will be...
Read moreUpdated on 5/24/2020 Exclaimer, I do work at Hops 44 (one year now) Growing up in Northeast Mississippi, there are a few things sacred. Now living in New England, trying to find a place that doesn't confuse BBQ with just a simple burger on a grill is hard enough, not to mention folks always drowning things in sauce. Spending 10 weeks in quarantine may have been tough, but the brains at Hops took the chance to plan and let me tell you, the wings and pulled BBQ ribs are up to my Southern Standards. Pictured is their most recently added offering. I wasn't even hungry and ate the whole dish. Make sure to save room to share some wings as they just fall off the bone. Cheers.
I go at least once a week. This place has been a great bastion of hope in the desolate land of Storrs. The prices are great and the food is awesome. I’ve had decent beer most time I’m there. I joined the mug club and it’s super fun to go on Tuesday for Trivia night. I enjoy going at slow times to read and have a pint. For folks worried about an influx of undergrads, it really is a community place. Usually a grad student, young adult, and local crowd. The service is great and overall is a nice way to unwind after working on campus....
