When I dined at Toast I ordered a salad with tuna. The waitress wrote down chicken salad and the kitchen served me chicken instead of tuna. I have been a pescatarian for over 10 years. After having a few bites I tried to find the waitress to confirm that I was served tuna and not chicken. She was no where to be seen. I finally grabbed another waiter and asked him. I explained that I do not eat meat and just wanted to confirm. He took a very long time in the kitchen and when he returned he had a cup of tuna in his hand. He said that they served me the wrong thing and asked if I would be okay with chicken. When I told him that the chicken I ate will make me very ill he said they will remake the salad. I wish he had run back out to take the salad away from me instead of taking the extra time to get the cup of tuna.
My original waitress then brought me a second salad that was much smaller and sad looking compared to the first. She did little to apologize and said that she heard chicken. I again explained that I would definitely become very ill from this and again she offered nothing to rectify the situation with the bill. When I went to pay at the counter a man asked how it was and I told him the truth and explained that I would get very ill from the meat as my body is not used to processing it. He said “oh sorry” and then slide my credit card for the bill. Nothing to rectify the situation with the meal.
After becoming very sick over the weekend, I tried to contact Toast about this. There is no email address listed on their website. So I send a Facebook message. The message was read right away but it took the person a day to respond. They said they will make it right next time I come in (as if I would return). I explained that I am from out of town and was just visiting and then never heard anything back.
My advice. Double check your order (especially if you have dietary restrictions) as the staff do not value you here and do not take dietary restrictions or...
Read morePerhaps we ordered items that are not so popular because our food was just not right. My children and I dined here and ordered omelets, ham and cheese for the kids and steak and cheese for myself. My omelet had really hard, very chewy pieces of steak and the cheese was not melted, and the grilled onions I asked for were not added to the omelet, for these reasons I regret my choice from the menu. The ham and cheese omelets seemed to be okay other than hard pieces of something in the omelet. The potatoes were clearly reheated and possibly cooked the day before, I have never had potatoes like this, what a let down. The staff were not very friendly, I was not offered a refill on coffee and our waitress was only friendly when she waved goodbye to us from the kitchen as we exited the restaurant. I chose this restaurant because it received great reviews, I do understand that no place is perfect and people aren't always friendly as each of us has our own battles that we face daily, but with the pandemic my family and I rarely make it out to eat these are special occasions for us. That being said, maybe this was a fluke and we visited on an off day, but if I am keeping it honest, our experience at Toast was not a positive one. Perhaps we will give them another try in the future as I certainly agree with...
Read moreI've been meaning to try this place for well over a year and a half and was concerned when it temporarily closed down earlier in 2024. Finding out the owners had staffing issues and, since then, having corrected them, Toast, Four Corners was everything i had hoped for. It is relatively close to the city where i live with an enjoyable ride heading towards the Uconn campus and countryish atmosphere. There is plenty of free parking to this cozy, cute breakfast and lunch nook. Which doesn't seem very large until you go in and see it is much bigger, yet comfortable inside. Sunday after 11 am is prime breakfast hours, but we I didn't have to wait more than 15 minutes for a table. Service was very courteous and prompt, not rushing to take an order while deciding. Options from regular breakfast to omelets, sandwiches, waffles ( with chicken), pancakes, gluten free, and the like to their own creation of " the pile" ( caserole style dish). Comfortable, bright, open place with good food and service that will make you want to try it for lunch. Definitely will be on my rotation as one of my local...
