Pleasant experience getting lunch here today. I called in to place an order by phone and a lady answered promptly and was very polite to talk with. Sounds odd to point that out, but I order by phone a lot and I've had my fair share of bad experiences.
Got there and my food had just been finished. I was expecting this to be a hole in the wall bar from the type of building it is on the outside. It's not though. It's a nice little diner with a handful of booths and a counter to sit at. It's a quaint, but nice, little place.
I ordered the shrimp basket with fries. With tax and all the total order came to a little over $11. That's a reasonable price for the amount of food you get.
The shrimp themselves are small, but you get a lot of them. They don't have a lot of flavor, but I'm in Central/Northern Ohio. Seafood is typically not a local Ohio diner's strong point. So I'm not gonna be too particular on the shrimp.
The breading on the shrimp though was really good. Nice crunch and tasty. That helped to make up for the shrimp themselves being a bit bland.
And the cocktail sauce was solid. It looked like it might be made in house. If anyone from Porky's reads this, I'd love to know if the cocktail sauce is made there or if they just buy it.
The fries were fair style fries. Lot of flavor, limp, greasy, DELICIOUS! :-D
Make sure to put salt and ketchup on the fries though.
All in all, I'm happy with my lunch today. I'll go back for a burger at some point in time. I expect those to be of even better quality since it's easier to get fresh beef in Ohio.
Edit: I ordered dinner tonight and that consisted of the breaded veal sammich and fries. Upon the recommendation of the lady at Porky's I got tomato and mayo on my sammich. It was really good. I really like breaded veal, and this was your typical breaded veal sammich.
And the fries were delish, because of course they were
Highly recommend Porky's for...
Read moreMy first experience was a couple years ago, the food wasn't great and the worst thing was the pop tasted like water. A couple days ago, we went back because we were giving it another chance. We are 100% on supporting local restaurants and diners. We sat down with our kids, waited to be greeted as the server was stamping a book. We began looking at the menu.. another server walks through and the other one was standing right there at the bar when we sat down. not a single acknowledgement. We waited and finally took our kids and walked out. It would have been different if one of them would have said "we'll be with you in just a moment", something! In the end when we got out to the car, the one server was sitting outside on a step looking at her phone. I could say bad things about the prices, but I understand people have to make money. But the lack of customer service and how the experience went, I wish I could give a rating on the food, but I guess that doesn't matter now. I can say that I have never been treated so bad at...
Read moreAfter a buddy of mine spent the morning touring the Ohio State Reformatory, we popped into this interesting looking place. We placed our order of 2 burgers, fries, onion rings, and 2 shakes. After about 10 minutes, we were given our shakes.
After spending the next 10 minutes looking around at the old menus and ads that hung on the walls, I looked into the kitchen and saw food being dropped into the dryer without gloves being worn (nearing the peak of a global pandemic, mind you).
Knowing the food will cook, I tried to ignore that. Until my buddy pointed out a young man in the kitchen going to town on a sandwich, no gloves, next to a prep station. That same man began loading up our burgers with lettuce and tomatoe - sans gloves.
That's when I told our waitress to cancel our order, and we left.
I do not recommend this small mom and pop place. 0/10 would recommend.
10/10 would recommend visiting the Ohio State...
