Although they're gaining traction, this is still one of the lesser known sandwich shops in the Philadelphia area whose pumping out some of the BEST cheesesteaks in the area, hands down. First off, their marquee sandwich isn't even the cheesesteak, its their hot roast beef. Secondly, you know the culinary experience you're about to have is going to be special when you enter the small, standing room only, shop with its array of pots and pans hanging in the back in addition to the standard griddle and deli slicers. They're serious about their craft. The owners were warm and kind despite basically being slammed with steady business on a Sunday. That's simply a bonus (speaking of which, they were kind enough to throw in a free hot roast beef sandwich for myself and other patrons to try, which was excellent in its own right).
The cheesesteak itself? Look, I've eaten at Angelo's handful of times including when they were still in Haddonfield. I've been to just about any worthwhile place in Philly and South Jersey. I grew up on cheesesteaks - they are my favorite sandwich - so I'm not new to this. The cheesesteak I ordered at Louie G's is the best I've had in years and solidly better than most places in Philly and basically, most places in the area. It was downright nostalgic. I can't sell the experience enough. You'll just have to taste for yourself. But, prepare. You could be waiting close to an hour for your order depending on how busy they are. Don't be discouraged, though. Its...
Read moreSo needless to say, in my opinion, when it comes to a hot roast beef sandwich, I've always had my preferential Go-To spot, which was always Snow White down in Wildwood. In between, I've found some "ok" comparable places to go to, and some "never again" places up until today when I had the ability and privilege to finally experience Louie G's Famous Roast Beef !!! At first entry, I was caught by the small family feel, seeing the lunchmeat case to the quant-ness feel that I had welcoming me in, with Gianna smiling and asking what I was in the mood for, to making small talk about how it's her, her brother Louie, and their father's business So of course, I had to go with the traditional/Hot roast beef on a seeded roll with Sharp Provolone, and Aushu sauce on the side to lightly drip onto a incredibly beautiful sandwich already!!! Needless to say, I found now, a place that not only replaces the Snow White roast beef, but BEATS IT!!! They serve everything, I mean everything homemade and in house...Everything from homemade desserts to Cheesesteaks/Roast Pork/Meatball Parm/Chicken Cutlet to every cold hoagie that anyone and everyone can choose from!! Lastly, do yourselves the favor!! Put this place on your go to, must have place list and you'll find that your frequenting it more and more often! Pictures don't do this place enough justice Thank you Louie, Gianna and staff!! See...
Read moreIt has been almost a year since the first time I tried this place. My wife and I were in the area and she never had it so I suggested we go. We ordered a hot roast beef with sharp provolone & broccoli rabe. We also ordered the Lou’s Famous Chicken Cutlet Italiano. My wife started with the chicken cutlet and after her first bite she commented it was amazing. As she continued she said it was the best sandwich she’s ever had in her life. She then tried the roast beef and was now conflicted… She couldn’t decide which sandwich was better. Two sandwiches evidently tied for best sandwich ever, quite unlikely. I echo the experience. While eating the chicken cutlet I thought I liked it better but when switching to the roast beef that was my new favorite… until biting back into the cutlet.
The entire staff inside Louie G’s are some of the most friendly anywhere. They seem very genuine in wanting their customers to enjoy every moment of the experience.
Honestly even if we lived hours away, this place is worth the drive on a day where there’s nothing to do but...
