I would give this place a perfect 5 based solely on the food, but I just can’t with my experience with a rude server from the ā€œother sideā€ of the diner. A little kindness and softer tone goes a long way. I am a current diner owner, with a server background and I would have been completely embarrassed if one of my servers spoke to a customer the way she spoke to me. My server had disappeared for awhile, the place was getting busy again and we had been waiting to check out and in need of a to-go box. I wanted to vacate our table quickly to make room for new customers, So I walked to the counter and was scolded like a child for trying to give her my bill and cash payment. No change was needed and I kindly asked for a box. She was clearly irritated then she raised her hand, raised her voice, raised her attitude and gestured that I was seated on the other side of the establishment and needed to pay my server directly. That they don’t touch each other’s tickets. That’s fine but you didn’t have to be rude. How could I have known, never have been there before? Food was great, portions too. Just stay on the ā€œother sideā€ of the diner. Just...

The Wooden Spoon — where time stands still and your waitress disappears into the void.

Went here for breakfast because I thought it’d be a cozy little spot to kickstart the day. Turns out, it was more like being trapped in a tiny waiting room with pancakes as bait.

The space? Cozy, if "cozy" means you’ll accidentally elbow your neighbor every time you reach for your coffee.

We waited over an hour after being seated to get our food — that’s right, an hour AFTER sitting down. Pretty sure I aged a decade and could have grown my own chickens and harvested the eggs faster.

As for the waitress, we saw her exactly three times: 1ļøāƒ£ To take our drink order. 2ļøāƒ£ To deliver our long-lost breakfast, an hour later. 3ļøāƒ£ To drop the check, probably so she could vanish back into Narnia.

The food itself? Average. Which is a shame, because if you’re going to make people wait that long, it better be life-changing.

Overall, if you enjoy long existential waits and playing "Where’s Waldo?" with your server, this is your place. Me? I won't be back. My schedule (and my sanity)...

Our server was nice, however, the food was NOT worth the wait. We were a party of 3 and dined here at 10 on a Saturday morning.

I work in sit down breakfast cafes and totally expect a wait at a vacation spot on a weekend at 10.

We waited about 35 minutes for a table and decided to sit at the counter. Food then took 47 minutes after we ordered. We ordered two breakfast sandwiches and a waffle. The chef does a single check at once and works by himself.

If you do come here, do NOT sit at the counter. The employees put dirty dishes right in front of you and walk away. There are buss bins under the counter, which is fine. However, putting dirty dishes in front of customers? Eating or not, that is not okay.

Two sandwiches, a waffle, a coffee, juice and a soda, came out to $48 pre-tip. Not worth the mediocre food, price, and wait combined.

I do not want to discourage anyone from coming here but rather set realistic expectations.

Im sure this place is good for locals, off seasons and during the weeks. If are on a time crunch do...

The whole experience was just a benchmark on how to provide the worst customer service possible. Waitress extremely unfriendly and looked like she slept under the bridge wearing a t-shirt with holes in it. Requests for food allergies were rudely not answered. Food was thrown without comment on the table. You don't get a proper receipt just a paper with the final amount and the information that gratitude is not included. In our case the final amount was more than 3 dollars higher than it should have. Even after computing in front of her eyes the amount, the waitress didn't understand the problem insisting that machines make mistakes and the final amount is what she computed. Additionally 1 dollar is added for card payment. So overall I got scammed with 3 dollars wrongly added to the bill, 1 dollar additional fee for card payment and are asked to give gratitude on top of. This place is just a disgrace for the whole industry.

Five Stars Isn’t Enough. On a spontaneous trip to Key West, we decided to overnight in Marathon — and what a lucky move that turned out to be. Our original breakfast spot wasn’t open early enough, so we took a chance on The Wooden Spoon. One word: WOW. From the moment we walked in, the service was warm, attentive, and genuine — the kind of hospitality that makes you feel like a regular even on your first visit. But the real star? The food. We tried the homemade banana bread French toast — and I’m still dreaming about it. Perfectly caramelized on the outside, fluffy inside, and packed with real flavor, not just sugar. Every bite was a throwback to comfort food done right. You can tell everything is made with care. This is the kind of place that feels like home, but better. A true five-star gem in the Florida Keys — don’t miss it.

A fun tiny wooden spoon and greasy spoon. No frills but fast, food and friendly service. The omelettes and potatoes are hot and the biscuits are big and fresh! The coffee is diner coffee, not strong, food friendly, and the grits weren't as smooth as usual, but it was a holiday and we were happy to have a good breakfast. It's a small spot but good parking and at the busy time you may encounter a wait. Another diner nearby had the croissant sandwich with egg and cheese, it looked delicious and a lot of tables had iced tea. Everything is made fresh, prices are fair, and it's quick. Don't forget to try the blueberry or banana nut bread!
