Really disappointing on many fronts. We went on Valentine’s Day (for my wife’s birthday) excited to try a new place with good reviews, but ended up having a horrible experience. The menu was limited to the Valentine’s Day special, which was a $95 set menu including a (small) appetizer, a main course, a shared side, and a shared dessert. No drinks included. This was not disclosed upon making the reservation so it was a complete surprise. Items seen online were not on the menu and the price was waaay more than expected. The portions were not enough for the $95. Each course took a long time to come out and we were even told to change our steak order 40 min after ordering it since they ran out of it. 4.The food: -the tuna appetizers needed way more flavor… maybe an ingredient was missing. -the scallops appetizer was good but came with only two scallops!! -the salmon tasted fishy and seemed to have a cheap orange sweet and sour sauce on it. -the lava cake was a tasteless browny with a towering pile of tasteless vanilla ice cream on it. We were asked about our experience at the end of the night and we were nice but honest about all that had gone wrong. The manager was kind and very apologetic, acknowledging it was an off night, but not giving us any solution. We said that a discount would help the situation and ten minutes later we got a new bill with one drink ($19) discounted from the total amount. Needless to say, that did not do the job and was so insulting.
This is not a fancy steakhouse and should not cost more than $150 for two people even on a...
Read moreExcellent night out in Marblehead. We have heard great things about the relatively new Mai Tai Lounge and decided to try it despite it being 45 minutes from our house. It was worth the drive! All six of us enjoyed every aspect of the night as the food, drinks and service were all outstanding.
Let's start with the drinks. The waiter realized that we were going to try a variety of the Mai Tai's. He asked me specific questions about the first Mai Tai and once I told him what I really liked about it, he said "I will get you a Mai Tai that is just as great" and he was right. Fun, tasty drinks that were served cold and refreshing. The Asian pear infused gin was outstanding.
We went heavy on the appetizers (Small Plates) as we had the Lobster Rangoon (we ended up ordering a 2nd order because they were so good), Thai Style Spare Ribs, Mai's Mango Scallop, Calamari and Spring Rolls. They were all excellent as they all had distinct flavors that were perfect for each item.
We ended up splitting the entrees because we had so much food during the "Small Plates". We were happy that we decided to split the entrees because they were generous portions. We had the Sea Bass, Filet Mignon, Mai Tai Lounge Steak and a couple of bowls of Fried Rice and Noodles.
Bananas with ice cream for dessert were a treat...
Read moreEverything from food, service and ambiance was great. A great place if you're looking for Asian fusion food in a cool spot. We ordered tuna tataki, mai's mango scallops, oysters, pork belly buns, octopus (special), and Banana Fritters A La Mode and pineapple & orange ice cream. I highly recommend the octopus, banana fritters, and oysters. The octopus was cooked well, and had great flavors. Oysters were fresh and big. If you like thai mango sticky rice, you'll like the banana fritters: it's so tasty. The other dishes were also good; I also really enjoyed the side salad. I'm usually not an ice cream person, but the ice cream was an interesting flavor combination and not too sweet.
For drinks, we got the expresso martini and sneaky lychee. My expresso martini was good, however the sneaky lychee was a little too sour for my taste.
Our waiter Henry was great. He checked on us often, gave great recommendations and just very personable. Other staff, including Alyssa the hostess, came to check in on us and made us feel welcomed. The space is beautiful itself. There's a lot for parking and it's located on the second floor. I look forward to coming back here next time...
