We have stayed here on three different occasions and each time we have been very pleased by our room and the service.
Let's start with the rooms - each is uniquely pleasant and no two are alike, which is part of the appeal - each time our accommodations were different but no less good. Most importantly, they were CLEAN. We have never had any issues with cleanliness.
Old school tubs are great and the beds have always been quite plush and comfortable. Being a techie, I also appreciated the wifi, which was a nice touch.
The location is one of the MSH's best features. If you are looking to visit historic old town Marblehead, this is THE place to stay. It is within close walking distance of everything you might want to visit as well as full grocery, liquor store (because a little extra vacationing can't hurt) and several decent restaurants. I love the fact that I can park my car and forget it when I stay there.
The fact that you are less than a minute's walk from the ocean cannot be undersold. You open the gate from the back yard, take a few steps through a quiet public park, and you are right on the water. We love to watch the sunrises and listen to the gentle clang of the sailboats' rigging each morning.
John, the owner, has always treated us well. He told us that he grew up in the area and it shows. Whatever we needed or wanted to see, he seemed to know where to find and how to get there. We have no doubt that his recommendations and directions have made our stays both more enjoyable and just plain easier.
My wife and I recommend Marblehead Summer House to anyone traveling to the area and will be sure to stay...
Read moreWe had booked an exciting trip to Salem, MA, with them for the first time and were eagerly looking forward to it. Unfortunately, due to natural disasters, we had to cancel. Our home was destroyed twice by Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton, and during Milton, we were under mandatory evacuation orders. The devastation left us without clothes, furniture, or any means to travel, and the airports were closed, making it impossible for us to make the trip. We had every intention of rebooking for next year, but we were disheartened by the refusal to offer a full refund, despite canceling five days prior. What’s even more upsetting is that all the other Airbnbs we had booked immediately refunded our money with no issues. Given the circumstances, losing nearly everything, we found the response from Marblehead inhumane and deeply disappointing. To make matters worse, when I called to requesting a simple email address, John was beyond rude and even hung up on me. It was so bizarre and unprofessional, adding to an already frustrating situation. It’s disheartening to see such a lack of empathy during a catastrophic event that affected so many.
I want to make future guests aware of this situation and how heartless and inconsiderate these hosts actions have been in a time of crisis. While we had no home, no clothes and no power, John decided to keep our money for a trip we were unable to go on. I hope you reconsider staying here after this situation occurred. At this moment it is not just about the money, but the principle of showing compassion...
Read moreSpectacular July 4th at the Marblehead Summer House. My husband and I travelled to Marblehead, Mass to visit with friends, and had a chance to stay in the Marblehead Summer House. The Innkeeper John is terrific and helpful. The location could not be beat and the room was super comfortable. It is really fun to stay in the old houses from the 16th and 17th centuries. One of the great beauties of Marblehead is that the homes are all still there, just like they were. We had a terrific ground floor suite room with sitting are, wide beamed wood floors, four poster bed, and all the modern conveniences of wifi, cable TV, and air conditioning. The location is steps from everything yet you feel privacy in your room. In the rear of the Inn is a hidden garden with garden chairs, perfect for a glass of wine or cup of coffee among the flowers. Steps away is the Barnacle famous for home made breakfast and fried dough. The Muffin shop is up the street - no problem finding excellent food all around. The Marblehead harbor is spectacular and the Inn backs onto Crocker Park which has a hillside view of the ocean - just incredible. There is even a swimming platform there. Highly recommend the Marblehead Summer House. We plan to return as often as we...
