Rating: ★★★★★ Three Cod Tavern is everything you want in a classic New England dining experience—family-owned, full of charm, and brimming with heart. From the moment you walk in, you’re welcomed with a warmth that feels like home. The atmosphere is cozy and energetic, with that unmistakable buzz of a place that’s truly loved by its community. The food? Consistently fantastic. The clam chowder is rich and comforting, the baked haddock is a standout, and their lobster roll is one of the best around—fresh, overflowing, and perfectly seasoned. Whether you’re stopping in for a casual weeknight meal or celebrating with friends, every dish is served with care. What really sets Three Cod apart is the energy—you can feel the pride and passion of a family-run business in every detail, from the service to the menu. It’s no wonder it’s become a beloved staple in Marblehead. A five-star gem, through and through.

We came in from Missouri as part of a group that stayed nearby for the week. We came in 3 or 4 times during the 5 day stay, and we loved every visit. The staff was super friendly, and made us feel right at home. There was one night the kitchen closed early, and we compeletely understood, but the woman up front still offered us the rest of the chowder and cornbread. It was delicious, best clam chowder I've ever had. My husband and I loved everything we had each time. Lobster Mac and Cheese, Clam Plate, Roast Beef Sandwich, Reuben Sandwich, Hot Wings, everything was amazing, and prices were so reasonable! Even the drinks were delicious. We are back in Missouri left with a sad feeling that we can't walk to our own version of Three Cod here. We will definitely be planning trips back to Marblehead to come back and visit. :)

Nice little spot. Bar on one side, restaurant on the other. I went in because of the locals going in and out. Obviously popular place. My server was a sweet older lady with a limp. She was like your Mom,lol. Truly Sweet. I'd go here just for her. I got the Jumbo Shrimp. It was a bit bready. A bit crunchy, for my tastes. I noticed it was the only Seafood not Market Priced, so it may have been frozen. My fault. It wasnt bad, by any means. It just didn't wow! I did thoroughly enjoy my meal, and would go again.

TLDR: mediocre service + funky smelling and tasting coleslaw=this review

We were greeted by the hostess. Her personality was super friendly. We were shown to our table and before we sat down, she offered for us to go back to the front of the host stand to hang up our coats, which was a bit backwards.

Our server was definitely not very hospitable. I had to ask for bread and butter. Cornbread came out, no small plates. I had to use the plate from under my clam chowder that I had (which was a bit too sandy but the broth was good) and my husband had to use the plate the butters were on.

I had the salmon with dill sauce and lobster claw as an entree with a baked potato. The baked potato I couldn't eat because I wasnt offered butter, sour cream, salt, just a potato.

Husband had the fried haddock with fries and slaw. The fish was good, the fries were good, and the coleslaw smelled like a home depot lumberyard and tasted like it too.

My wine was also poured improperly; filled to the brim. If you're going to do a generous pour, offer a small quart to the side or get bigger glasses. Speaking of wine, the selection was dismal. It basically looked like I was ordering wine from the olive garden wine selection.

If you're going to charge around 20 to 30 dollars a dish, make sure your spirits match those prices and are served correctly.

Also, my dill sauce spilled on me, like a third of it, and three servers walked past me and saw me trying to clean myself up. Not a single one offered to get more napkins for me.

We will not be...

Highest prices around, cheap ingredients and awful service. I don't know why anyone eats here, the menu is awful and the seafood was beyond repulsive. Forget the other reviews on here and head somewhere else to eat!!! Clearly the other people writing the reviews have never left the bubble town they live in, and their taste buds are completely gone. The only thing worth getting here is a mixed drink, and clam chowder. My girlfriend got the fried scallops, they were 100% frozen, grey and smelly. I've worked in many kitchens and know fresh seafood like the back of my hand. Not to mention the scallops were market price and cost $28. Absolutely unacceptable for that price. I got a captains cut prime rib and it was more like a sliver of dog food grade roast beef. There was no marble, and the meat was tough. Not to mention it cost $31.99. The prices at this place are through the roof and the food is absolutely terrible. The prices resemble that of a premier steak and seafood restaraunt in the middle of Manhattan, but they are located on a clustered street in Marblehead with no view or parking. I could smell how cheap the owner of this establishment was by the prices and products they put forth. PLEASE READ THIS AND NEVER WALK INTO THIS ESTABLISHMENT, WE WERE BOTH HORRIFIED. Not to mention the waitress staff and what seemed to be the owners wife didn't know what they were doing to...

We were on vacation visiting in town so it was mine and my friend first time going there it was recommended by a local. Love the atmosphere and the history of the place. I like how they have the bar for locals that's noisy separated from the dining. The bowl of clam chowder that I started with was excellent, the Lobster rolls each cost $31. We each got a hot and a cold one to split not worth the money. The hot Lobster roll had shredded lettuce as a filler which i didn't care for and they put mostly from the claw mmeat and tip which has no meat it's slimy and the cold same thing but drowned it in lots of Mayonnaise. The Lobster is what you want to taste on the roll no need to overdue it on lettuce or dressing and should be more meat for that price. The service was alright we had two they were rude. We got desserts to go I got strawberry shortcake that was very good. The shortcake was more like biscuit, but I would prefer to eat it there and my friend got the bread pudding she said it was way too sweet and not worth $9.75 If I did go back I would definitely get the clam chowder & Strawberry shortcake I highly recommend. Total bill $127. Incl. tip for 2 people that's way too much never will do that again. I'll get the...
