Marek's Restaurant — Restaurant in Marco Island

I usually prefer not to voice negative opinions on the web but this an exception to the rule due to my overall disappointment.

We were not surprised by the high pricing due to the Zagat's rating but the food did not live up to our expectations.

I started with a Caesar Salad. It was swimming in dressing and lacked anchovies. Sadly my local pizzeria does a better job.

My special, Mahi-Mahi with stuffed crab meat, was drenched in a cream sauce. The fish was bland and overcooked. My wife's dish, lobster tail with crab meat, was overcooked.

We asked to have the specials repeated and our waitress decided to give us the abbreviated version. In fact, one of our martinis was less than stellar and we asked for a substitute of white wine. She complied with hesitation.

On a positive note, the ambience was excellent. Casual yet linens lined the tables. The place was kept immaculate.

We wrapped up the tab of $240 including gratuity, drinks, appetizers and 4 mains before we could try...

We were greeted by a SNOOTY maître de because we rode up on our bikes. As we walked in, she eyed us UP & down then up & down again. I joked with her that I was the piano player & asked where the piano was. That was met w/ a disgusted look so I said,"I'm joking ". Her answer? " I'm SURE you are!". We asked if she had a table & she asked about reservations in an EMPTY restaurant. She stammered so we said, "NO problem if you don't cuz there are a LOT of other places nearby". She DID seat us, i n a distant corner. I had fish & chips, like $13 & Nan got a salad for like $6. She asked for a small piece of fish for the top & were charged $25. Whole bill, $41ish. When the credit card CO billed us, Marek's had billed us $117. Error????? You decide. Food filled a hole. THATS WAS ALL! Pass...

Had a great meal and great food our first time there. It was so good that we decided to go back a second time at the end of the week. We went early (5 o’clock) and we were told that they were full, despite place was 1/2 empty at the time. We asked if we could sit at the bar, which was empty, as we had done so our first time there. The manager arrogantly stated “no” and made no effort to accommodate us, shame because they lost out on a $300 to $400 dinner. With such a poor attitude not sure that we would go back.
