Good Evening Google Family. Mom and I visited today on this Thankful Thursday, October 3, 2024. I had just left the Walmart in Eddystone, PA, this has become my favorite location of Walmart, because they always have everything on my shopping list. I then shopped for gas at Conoco, and then the post office in Woodlyn. I used to patronize this location, but I have not been there in years, the post office in Woodlyn. I needed to send my cousin a wedding present, since she is getting married soon. Our next stop was the Sungate Diner. Mom and I have never patronized this diner. I look for diners that have tilapia and I have long discovered that not everyone carries tilapia. If a restaurant does not have tilapia, then Mom does not know what else to eat. We visited the rest room and it was clean. Amanda was our server. We started out with someone else and then it was Amanda. Amanda was always our server. She was superb. My mom ordered tilapia with mashed potatoes and no gravy, and applesauce. I ordered crab imperial, stirfry vegetables and corn. Everything was delicious. Mom took her leftovers home. I ate all of my food. I was super hungry. Afterwards, Amanda informed me that I could pull around the back so that Mom could get in. I thought that was so sweet. Amanda will always be our server when we come here. She also said to call ahead and they would open the back for my mom. We felt like CELEBRITIES!!! We will definitely be back here, A truly delightful experience!!! Its hard to find people like Amanda, not everyone is kind like her. Thank you so much Amanda and we will return!!!! Crab imperial was $22.99 and broiled tilapia was $18.99. I also had tea, which was $2.50. Our grand...
Read moreWe love Sungate Diner. We mostly get breakfast (day or night) and it's always perfect. Pancakes, French Toast, Omelettes, regular eggs fried or scrambled, Country Fried Steak, Sausage Gravy with biscuits, Cream Chipped Beef with biscuits.... Homefries with or without onions, bacon, sausage, hot Italian sausage, Turkey sausage.... seriously it's all been delicious.
Dinners are quite good too. Veggies can be a bit bland and mushy (low sodium, canned) but I think that's typical for diners I've been to. Prime rib has been good. Not steak house quality, by any means, but we enjoy it regardless. Ravioli with a meatball is one of my simple favorites. Stuffed shells were also good. Nice al dente pasta every time I've had any. Grilled ham and cheese was delicious. Fries are those crispy battered style. Chicken's been good. Meatloaf was reminiscent of Salisbury steak, not bad but not my favorite. Pretty sure we've had tilapia too and that was done quite well.
Basically we've NEVER had a BAD dish that we couldn't eat and enjoy. Carrot cake and rice pudding were also excellent.
Service is usually fast even when it's busy. Waitresses and waiters are always friendly and efficient. Place is clean. Bathrooms are clean.
I highly recommend, especially for breakfast foods. You can't go wrong...
Read moreI'm having a hard time understanding how this place got 4.5 star review. I understand it's a diner but I've been to better diners in my time. I went for lunch with my child who ordered a large hamburger meat, or a flat meatloaf, that was a "steak", while I ordered a shrimp pasta. The shrimp was great however the pasta was that of which belongs in a soup. The sauce it was swimming in was over bearing and ended up draining it into my salad dish. He was glad to have ordered a side of fries, which were actually great! The area was not the best, small establishment with only one narrow way in and out, and our waitress was fun but seemed confused or maybe even new. Perhaps started that week? Seeing some of the reviews, it is possible that this place is not for everyone. It's definitely not for me and mine. We went out to try new places, and found Stargate. I can't really find a time of day that would be best to go to bring out it's 'charm', even so the food was not worth it to try again...
