My partner and I visited Marfa for the first time after hearing lots of good things from a celebrity we follow, so we had to check this cute little spot out. The decor and music made for a great vibe. I felt like I had been transported to a bar in LA or Austin when I stepped inside. Unfortunately, this included the pretentious locals you get out in LA or Austin as well. I had a couple of unpleasant interactions, one being with another customer who was hovering behind me while I was standing at the bar. When I offered him a chair, he sat down right in front me, and pushed my menus off to the side, essentially taking my spot and kicking me off the bar. I ordered an old fashion, which was a shot Makers, grenadine and some crushed ice. It was completely red in color which threw me off⊠not the typical old fashion that Iâm used to. We ordered chips and queso, which the girl from the kitchen kindly brought out to us, then spilled all over my partners pants as she was setting it on the table. She was very apologetic, brought some towels to help clean up and asked the bar tender to take it off our ticket. Between the unpleasant interactions with the locals, the weird old fashion and the cheese on the pants, it was clear that we just werenât meant to be there. We finished up our drinks/snacks and left. For my old fashion, my partnerâs modelo and a hot dog we spent $26. Not sure how that happened as the old fashion was about $9, the modelo was $5 and the...
Read moreBased on other reviews we thought this would be a cute pit stop for the kids on Friday evening. NO. VERY unwelcoming vibe. A sign said to order food at the bar so I went up but was ignored. Figured I was on the wrong side and my 8 year old really had to pee, so I left it to my husband. He asked a woman if they had soft drinks and she just stared at him, then pushed a menu at him. Soft drinks weren't listed so he had to ask again. Wut. Meanwhile I had to protect my son from all the mosquitoes in the women's bathroom, then went back out to the car to douse myself in OFF! so I could also go. When I emerged I saw my husband and kids sitting alone at a table looking uncomfortable, so we just left. It was SO weird, not at all as described in the reviews. There were barely any people there, and a band was arriving to set up, so I didn't imagine we could be a burden. Perhaps we didn't fit the hipster vibe: yes I had on designer sunglasses/handbag, but we're chill and were all wearing casual road-trip clothes! It was evident 90% of the few patrons, employees and arriving musicians were white, so we figured perhaps there's an unwritten rule we were violating and that's why we weren't welcome? Message received: we won't be back! Drove up the road to Spicewood in Alpine...
Read morefinally had the chance to check out this place, and the atmosphere is absolutely phenomenalâdefinitely exceeded my expectations. However, the experience was dampened by a few issues. The food was okay, but there were a flies and I mean flies, likely due to the heat and the food, which made the dining experience less enjoyable.
What really bothered me was the service at the bar. The bartender was smoking a cigarette while preparing drinks, which was not only gross but unprofessional. On top of that, she made me close out my tab after just two drinks instead of letting me keep it open. I didn't understand why she couldn't simply start a tab for me.
Despite these issues, I would consider going back because of the amazing atmosphere, but I hope they bring in a more professional bartender who doesnât...
